Integra shifter fits P5

A buddy of mine told me civic/integra shifters fit his Kia rio he suggested trying em for the P5 and it fit.

the good part is their available everywhere, even on ebay u can pick em up for 35$ shipped CAD.

Things to know;
(1) the diameter of the bolt at the bottom of the integra shifter is smaller (buy a smaller bolt) you will also need to use washers to make up for the thinner width of the bottom of the integra shifter (make sure the only washers touching the shifter itself are the ones that came with the shifter so you dont crush the bearing).

(2) the pivot ball on the integra shifter is bigger, you will need to shave down the upper portion of the top shifter bushing so that the C clip will still fit.

(3) to use the OEM shift boot, tear out the plastic ring attached to it, when installing the console invert the boot, ziptie/rubber band the leather to the shifter and roll down, you wont be able to screw in the rear of the boot this way (it doesn't bother me...).

I think I was given a 96 model year integra shifter, i used a double bend. The greatest part about this mod is that not only did i save money on the shifter, but I plan on doing some body work on my other car using the heatshield i removed. Which looks like its going to rot out and rattle in a few years anyways. Also, throw is Greatly reduced.

rant: i really like the way Honda knobs look, I wanted one, bought it and it didn't fit the P5, so i go back to the guy, he screws my P5 knob onto a honda shifter and tells me it should fit, I look inside my P5 shifter to find that the fuckers mangled the plastic threads. and also this whole thing took me 2 days (due to the bolt issue, stores were closed) it would have taken a third had I not used Vaseline as grease for the bushings (which btw gives an awesome feel) Im sure this thread would benefit from the removal of this rant, but whatever. i apologize to kartboy, B&M and anybody else this is gonna itch.

Hmmmmm...

As much as I love my Kartboy knob, you gotta admit that this looks sexy:

i had that shiftknob on my integra, made out of titanium so it was heavy as ****, sometimes i miss that car :(. I think is till have my stock integra shifter in my garage but i probably won't be able to find it

if it was really heavy, it was not titanium.
The "titanium" is just the finish they paint on it or texturize it.

I fit that knob onto my shifter. It only threaded part way on, and for a while it was on straight, but over time it got crooked so the numbers aren't straight anymore :(

i have a late 90's integra short shifter if some one wants it to try out i will part with it CHEAP!! there is no hardware just the ss itself... 25$ plus shipping and its yours..if there is interest i will take and post pics ala a true for sale thread...(so take it easy mods)

Elemental Titanium is almost twice as heavy as Aluminum. Titanium Alloys can be lightweight, but not always. The advantage with titanium is its strength to weight ratio.

Yeah. Titanium is VERY lightweight

So, the Integra shifter fits with a bunch of work? I thought you were going to say it dropped right in. Anyway, good info.

Oh, and on the shift knobs, Mazda shifters are threaded for 10mm x 1.25 and Hondas are threaded for 10mm x 1.50. So, while you might be able to thread one onto the other, you will cross thread, and destroy one of them.

ok.... I've always wanted that Honda shift knob, so I go out and buy it, the guy at the store tells me it fits a P5, i check and it doesn't so I take it back and he looks at my P5 knob, sticks it on a Honda shifter and tells me it all fits and then when i look at my P5 knob i can see the threads all mangled but apparently he can't. So my friend tells me the integra shifter looks super identical and it fits his car story which is a Kia Rio (practically a ZM motor/tranny). The guy tells me i can return it if it doesn't fit. So we do it and it fits.

I wasn't trying to be frugal, this is just how it happened and as a side effect its much cheaper.
you know for 54 dollars aodfan can sell you megan racing short shifter shipped right?

And I was also fulfilling these peoples inner love for honda knobs (my own aswell) and also opening a whole new market of shift knobs for the P5.
hmmm... does this mean the "type R" style shiftknobs will fit?

Hmmmmm...

I didn't measure the height that needs to be shaved off the bushing, you can go back and forth with it, you will not be able to re-use the rubber ring so you have to be pretty precise, i like mine snug. Anyways sorry for the terrible picture quality (cellphone).

And now there's an interesting story to my shift knob...

thats some serious knowledge there njaremka, what do you do for a living?

Actually, I'm in sales. I have a mechanical engineering degree and took a few different materials classes in college, and my first job was with a machine and fabrication shop that worked with a bunch of different alloys.

I can confirm this, I just did it lastnight. Only part that sucked is I had to take the bushings off the OEM shifter and the one on the bottom broke. I super glued it and it held but while I went to put the top one on the bottom of the new shifter it broke too. I had no luck with them at all, so they are both super glued on there and i think one came apart but has no room for it to go anywhere. On the bolt at the bottom since you have to use about 3mm "1/8th inch long" washers on each side I'd suggest putting a little locktite on the nut. Also the bolt to use is an 8x1.25 50mm's long "2 inches" (it's the same thread pitch as the OEM one so i think it's 1.25 It's the fine threads) I put a little bit of electrical tape on the bolt since the 8mm size is just a but small and a 10mm is to big, if you have axcess to a sander you can sand down your OEM bolt and just use that. I also could not get the o-ring back onto the shifter. So I left that out and put the snap ring back in, It shifts find and is solid as a rock. I love the trown reduced it by 45%
