Intakes & foul weather

i don't think all of us have been reading the posts here? there is not any real additional risk with the injen, unless you drive your car through a lake and sumberge your filter, which if you did the AEM bypass, if you want one, would save your engine. i have no mis givings about the cai gains, i bought the injen becasue i thought it looked better than all that plastic crap!

and plus the injen doesnt realy suk the heat off ur engine. and plus Injen is wa collor i got the blue color one matches my car. and plus i dont want the filter right next to my engine

I personally agree that injen is by far the best intake, better than the aem because it is not close to the engine bay. And about sucking water I have driven with it everywhere . The filter sits way up high inside the wheelwell anyway, The only possible way you could suck up water is if there is a huge as flood and your really giving it gas to suck up water. I personally did'nt want to waste my money on a bypass valve since it also robs HP so it kind of negates the point of getting an CAI since some air is escaping througth the bypass valve anyway.

It means buy aem, the reason they dont take the time to build a cai for our car is because its useless the power gains are identical. so why would you risk sucking up water or snow when you can just buy an aem intake and not have to worry about anything.

Thats very true. do a search on past threads and you will see that the gains are identical. its got something to do with our air mass sensor not recognizing cold/warm air.

it all comes down to getting "more" air into the engine
for more efficient breathing.

but waht happens when you have splashing going on underneath the car, doesnt the cai suck up some of the stuff?

Not really unless the filter is fully submerged or the filter falls of and you have no filter than you can really suck some nasty stuff. If anything instead of getting a bypass valve just get a heatshield/splash shield this will protect the filter and not rob HP like the bypass valve. The only thing I did'nt like about the injen intake install was getting the damn filter on to the pipe w/o taking of the bumper that s*** took mad long. I had to jack up the car and really stick my arm in there and make sure the filter was fully secured but it was worth it I love the intake and the sound is so sweet!:D

no to put the filter on the injen when it is installed ull see there only like one way of gettin watter in there is my drivin in a lake ( i dont think any of us hate our cars that much) u have to take ur front bumper off to get to it o take ur wheel well off yea its in a lil baxed area Pefect cool air and were watter cant get to

If the hp gains are teh same then why would you waste all that time trying to get ur filter on ur cai when u ca buy an aem and just slip the filter under the car and the pull it threw to put it on. What happends when its time to clean ur filter? Its gona be a pain in the ass allover agene. I dunno why alot of ypu put down aem they put more research into thier filters. Im not putting donw injen but if you saw what the aem sri looks like youd def like it.

sounds like your putting down the injen "throw out your injen and go with a real company like aem, " i think these are your words? i really think a lot of stuff we do comes down to personal likes, i like the injen you like the aem, no prob man! yes it is a pain to clean the filter, but i knew that when i bought it, and i don't regret the purchase!

our cars are not high performance cars that the motors produce alot of heat in a cramed engine bay. The nice thing about aem over injen is that aem powder coats their intakes to help block heat. This is why a cai and a sri will get alomst identical results. I say almost because the cai is gonna give you very small gains over sri. Aem isn't gonna lie and say they make identical gains when they could charge you more money with a cai.

you could also get the injen cold air intake powder coated as
well for like an extra $20.

Ok, here are the low-downs on intakes (please read, good info):

First, you have two types, CAI (cold air induction) and SRI (short ram intake). For the most part, you have two name brands that make intakes: Injen, and AEM. Injen makes the CAI and AEM makes the SRI. Also, you can purchase a no-name, Bomz, or other off brand intake from eBay with simliar results to the SRI.

Rumors: Dispite what a lot of people say, the two types of intakes do not yeild a significant power difference. I have owned both types and noticed NO, NONE, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH increase between the SRI and the CAI. The basic difference is 1) Looks (the Injen you can get in different powdercoated colors), and 2) Personal Preference. The eBay intake will yield almost IDENTICAL results to the AEM SRI power wise. In my opinion, the eBay ones look like junk, but they serve their purpose...I had an eBay intake before my Injen...it's a good intake for a tight budget.

Another rumor is that you will have to worry about the CAI taking in water and destroying your engine...while this is theorectically possible, it will not happen unless you submerge your intake in water (ie - drive through a 2ft deep puddle)...the CAI is hidden in your wheel well behind the plastic shield which is screwed in...if you are especially nervous, you can always get the AEM bypass valve, although I personally think it's a waste of money.

Prices: You are going to spend significantly more money for the Inejn or AEM intake over the eBay intake. And you are going to spend more money for the Injen over the AEM. A lot of owners feel it's worth the money to be able to get your intake in Black, Red, Blue, Silver, etc, and therefore spend their money on the Injen. Frankly, if you don't care about name brands, or care what people think when you open your hood (if you even open your hood), I would not waste my money on the Injen or AEM...but that's just my opinion, and many hours have been wasted arguing this point. Many owners have found the best prices for the Injen at www.adventon.com...

i swear...ever since aem introduced that crappy bypass valve everyone thinks their car is gonna be under 6 ft of water...shyt...if your gonna be plowing snow or swamp buggy racing, than get it...

Aem offers red and blue as well. and the bypass valve was created for mostly other models and car that are lowerd.

i know a guy wit a integra and he had a cai and his wound up sucking up water when he went through a puddle and it cost a shitload of money to get it fixed
