I have been looking for an intake and I saw that AEM makes a ram air intake and a cold air intake, are they the same????can I get both???I am also looking at exhaust systems and headers any ideas on which would give me the most horses and any suggested brand names????I also was wondering if there is a chip made for the Mp3?Any help would be greatly appreciated thanx.

injen makes a cold air intake(cai), and aem makes two SEPERATE intakes, you cant use both...the injen gives between 6 and 9 hp...

Hi. yeah AEM and Injen make CAI intakes BUT they really give you about 1 or 2 whp. And about headers- AWR, OBX, HP racing and Mazda speed all make headers for 2.0L protege. Hope that helps.

I think that what he meant to say is that if you were to buy the version of the Injen CAI that was released first you would only get about 1-2 hp at the wheels...but, if you get the newer version... it is claimed to give you around 6 hp...the newer version has the 2.75 inch secondary piping vs. the older smaller secondary piping.

GOOD question.... Im not sure...I would hope so...because Im one of those people that had the Injen a week after it came out(doh)

That can't be right... Injen's website has a dyno on it with the MP3 going from 110.9 hp to 118.5 hp? That's nearly 8hp at the wheels from just an intake? Seems too good to be true...

i just wen to the injen site and they have this listed :

RD6060
Mazda MP3
2002
*** DYNO temporarily removed.
We will be re-testing the vehicle and have a dyno available shortly.

i wonder why????

Did you guys miss the thread about the Injen? There are questionable results on the Injen CAI on the MP3...

Anyway, last I saw AEM only makes the short ram intake for the Protege. Injen makes the cold air intake.

As far as headers go, all the available headers technically are illegal. However if you don't have emissions test don't worry about it. Traveler made a nice header that would retain all stock emissions equipment and adds power. He can make you one too.

There are no chips for the Mazda Protege. No one has be able to effectively counter act the stock programming. There are piggy back things out there, however none have been proven to work, yet...
