Intake kit

I am looking for an intake kit for my 2003 Protege5, I am thinking about HKS, InJen, and AEM, what do you guys think??? Or any other one I should consider???

i think you should make one from pipes readily available at any hardware store. if you go to the "search" button and enter in "intake" in the appropriate field, i am sure you will find the thread containing relevant info regarding the construction of said contraption.

One word: EBay!!
Got myself a cheapie EBay intake with "K&N-style" filter for $32 + shipping.

It's a short-ram style intake but the pipe is 3" diameter so low-end torque takes a bit of a hit. Gotta love the "PSSSSHHHHH" sound when you turn off the car, though.

Hey I have the AEM I love it I was wondering if anyone elses car makes a semi-loud Pssst when you shift? Mine sounds like a bov runing really low psi. Its really cool Ihave people come up to me thinking that It is turboed

go for the Injen.....one thing is for sure.....nearly any intake is going to give you about the same performance increase....just a few HP if that.....but you will get a lot better throttle response, that is the biggest difference with an intake for our cars...

but the injen looks the best by far.

I have a RM Racing intake. Check out:

http://www.rmrace.com/protege/protege5.htm

It is extremely good, and unlike "hack" intakes, it makes use of your air flow sensors and whatnot to provide increasing performance and reliability. It also has a superior filter (I have the foam one) and lasts the lifetime of your car with occasional cleaning and maintenance.

I think Injen is the way to go as well. I installed mine this weekend and i'am VERY happy with the results. Great throttle response, feel's a whole lot better over all. Look's great too! Took me a half hour or so to install with a little help from Sir-Nuke. THANK YOU SO MUCH NUKE!! Your the bomb!! Pun- intended!

is it just me or is the RM racing intake a short ram that sells for more than the injen CAI? it's over double what the AEM SRI sells for. whoa.

It is my understanding that the price of the RM Racing intake comes from the materials used and the superior lifetime filter. Most other intakes will require filter replacements that will exceed the price difference for the RM Racing one.

YMMV.

aren't k&n filters also lifetime? so AEM SRI ($130) + K&N cone filter ($50) is a whole lot less than $290. not trying to flame or anything. i did the same thing. the injen costs $200 and does nothing more than a $40 ebay intake.

Yeah, maybe I made the wrong choice. I don't know everything there is to know about the filters. I know that living in Arizona, I had to choose something that had superior particle filtering ability. According to my research, the oiled foam filter of the RM Racing intake was the best bet.

For the money of the injen kit you could buy an E-bay intake and still have money left over for a Kartboy STS & bushings and still about $90 left over...
