instrument cluster scratch

hey ppl, well on friday night i was installing my oil pressure gauge and i decided to tap into the wires at the back of the instrument panel. this was a great idea at the time and still is a great idea because it works perfectly and was very easy to figure out which wires i needed to tap into....but....while i was taking the cluster out i scratched the clear face of it.

what would be the best way to polish/buff/whatever the scratch out?

Depending on the depth of the scratch, you might be able to wet sand it out but I highly doubt it!
Looks like you will need to replace the plastic cover.
Call your dealer and see how much it is
Matt:)

yeah that's what i was affraid of. i guess i can only try wet sanding and see how i go....if that doesnt work then new plastic thingie. no harm in trying

I got two pro's down here in the junkyard and if the dealer is too much,I can try to see how much they would sell me the cover off the cluster for and possibbly ship it to you.
Maybe this might work out for you?I dunno
Matt:D

yeah that'll be cool if i cant get the scratch out. i'll try that first and see how i got and i'll let you know.

does anyone else have any other ideas on how to get the scratch out?

hmmm

ok i can think of two things....

because your in Australia, you have the advantage of great products such as MR Sheen!! I work for an optician, and we use this all the time to clean up lenses coz it gets into light scratching, other wise, i know i could polish it out, BUT this will leave some slight distortions in the window on the panel

i have scratched mine, and have had to polish, it cleaned up the scracthing, but unfortunently this creates a crazy speedo after 180km/h... but i have a 1.6, so i have nothing to worry about

secoindly force fed... you said you had some spare dash items?? i have been clever enuff to do some damage to mine, are you interested in getting rid of the parts?

Jim

hey forcefed...... one quick question.... do they have the a-pillar covers? the ones in the junkyard u were talking about?
