Installing/Purchasing Injen CAI

OK- First I did try searching and did not find much other than people talking about installing it the night before and such...

Anyway, How hard is it to install one? Does the Bumper have to be removed? How much time did it take you to really do it?

Also is there a good place to order one from? I am willing to pay a little more if they are good to deal with. I don't want just the cheap deal but good service too.

After having my new P5 for 12 days and 1300 miles I am dying to add a little more to it and I figure this is the best bang for the buck...

I appreciate any help!

The bumper does not have to come off just some plastic under side peices have to be partialy removed or totaly to make it easier. other then that the install should be easy for ya.

Pretty easy to install. The instructions are not the best but they guide you through it more or less. Pictures could be better though.

As for where to get it from, search a little more. There are a few people here that found good deals.

As for performance... I don't really think it gives you much. I actually went back to stock. It does sound cool though.

Oh and I didn't have to remove the bumper. It gets a little tight working by the filter, but not that bad.

Also there is possibly some member that went turbo that may like to sell there injen to you for a healthy discount.
You can always put up a thread about that in the For Sale section.

It makes it much simpler if you remove the front bumper. The install takes around an hour depending on your mechanical skills. I have to recommend ordering from nopi's website. I payed an extra $10 or so, and the intake arrived at my house in less than 2 days, even though I ordered two day delivery. The total with shipping was around $290.

Thanks for the tip.
If anyone has any install pics... during install that would be helpful.

Under the hood work has not been something I have played with much...

Done all the audio in way too many cars in my time but no engine stuff and I decided to limit the audio and go full performance... as the cash permits of course :D

By the ay are the instructions with the Injen for removing all the stock stuff and relocation whatever needs to be? I see all the wiring and stuff and just wondering where it will go. Sorry for the newbie questions....

Yeah, like I said, it more or less walks you through it. I just think the pictures are kinda crappy. Once you start removing the factory air box you will see that it is pretty simple.

Oh and someone did take pictures of a lot of the steps on here. Should be able to search for it.

thanks guys for the help!

It really didn't make that much of a difference? I thought it would make more of a performance difference than a cat back exhaust system

Well I have the sport shift auto. So maybe that had something to do with it. But I personally didn't think it made much of a difference. Just my opinion. But like I said, it does sounds really cool.

Then again, other people on here think that it does make a difference.

Also, I am not sure what the whp gains are for the intake, but I know a racing beat cat back will add roughly 4 or 5 whp (according to their website).

Just depends on what you want. You will probably be satisfied with both eventually.

I'm at your same shoes when I got my CAI. I was completely clueless in stuff like that. However, after many helps from Bijou and eggynatey, I was able to complete in about...5 hours? -_-
However, do keep in mind that I broke the Purge Solenoid when I did the installation, that's why it took longer (had to go around and find the parts). Though, it should really take less than 2 hours or so, really simple and straight forward.
Word of Advice: Becareful when removing the bolt on your Purge Solenoid. If you can't take it off, LEAVE IT ON! find another way around instead paying 60 bucks for a new one.

Furthermore, YOU DO NOT need to take the bumper off, it's really waste of time. You will find how incredibly easy to access the space where filter goes. Anyway, park your car and tilt your front wheel facing NE so you have access to your wheel well. There are 3 screws on the bottom of the bumper that holds the plastic piece onto your bumper, take those off. Proceed to take the couple plastic screws off that holds your plastic piece in your wheel well. Pull the plastic piece out so you can access the intake, then stick the filter in there (might need to use a bit force to pull that plastic piece so you can stick the filter in). Lastly, just stick your hand in and tighten the screws on the intake. *Note* I suggest you (as protege5online suggest you) that you periodically check the filter at random times make sure it's still tighten on the intake.

Here are some basic links to other people's instruction on intalling Injen CAI. The most useful one would probably be Mitch's (protege5online).

Hope this helps!

Buy it from Adventon.com
It cost $191 plus shipping. Came out to like $207 shipped. It only took 5 days and the guys there do really good business. Good luck.

the only that sucked with my install is that the way it told me to relocate the coolant resv. did not work for some reason on my car...it looked like it wasnt right, and bounced all around, so i did a little custom job, and mounted on the actual body of the car
