Installed my new springs (Eibach Pro-Kit)

Yesterday I put on my new Eibach springs. It was a hell of a job, taking little over 8 hours. It all went fairly smoothly (except for the bottom suspension coming out and hitting me the the head.... that could of been REALLY bad), it just took some time to get it all done.

Check it out:

So far I'm really liking it. I went driving today on some twisty roads and all types of conditions (smooth to rough). They hold up well no matter the case. The drop is subtle, but it makes the wheels look like they "belong" now, where before the font end fender gap bothered me. It's certainly a nice improvement over factory setup, without many disadvantages as it's still very comfortable and practical (I'm into that sorta thing).

Now I'm still sore from installing them, but I'm really happy I did it. (wiggle)

Looks awesome. I plan on getting the Eibach springs too, but wanted to see what it looked like on some people's cars first. So what took so long?

Well, I wasn't rushing but there's a lot to do. It's the biggest job I've done on a car before, and my friend helped me out through most of it. Loosening the nut from the top of the strut took some time and effort. I bent two allen wrenches trying to get it off, and had to go get a new set before I could continue.

I'm sure anybody with more experience could do it much faster, but it's definitely an involved project.

The car looks awesome! Sorry for asking, I'm curious, but how much did you get them springs for? =O

Thanks, I got the springs for $220 shipped from JSC Speed's website. It shipped very quickly and was on my door step in just a few days. I recommend them, it's a great deal.

Thanks for the recommendation, Chronus!

JSC Speed just got a very large shipment of these springs in stock, the group buy participants will be getting theirs shipped in the next day or so.

If you did not get in on the group buy, don't worry-- we still have many sets available and at a great forum only price.

PM me for details.

That does look sweet, I'm excited to get mine. You mentioned "without many disadvantages". What are those few disadvantages?

Well, it depends on your own taste. The car no longer feels "floaty" which is great, but as a trade off it's slightly more "bouncy". Not bad at all, it rebounds very quickly, its just you'll feel more of the road conditions. Honestly, it's great to me... I have no complaints. Even on large bumps it holds up very well, so I think it's a great compromise as it's still very comfortable yet the performance is improved.

Air Tools ftw! Save some money, go out and buy a compressor and impact gun.

Car looks great btw.....

If you don't mind me asking, what size tires are you using on those RX8 wheels? I'm contemplating a set and going with 245/40's, but I'm not sure if they'd rub or bottom out over bumps.

I am using the factory tires from the RX8 which technically a too big for the MS3. I believe they are 225/45/18. These are a bit thicker than the factory rubber. I had some rubbing when I first put them on with 5 people in my car while turning. It does not rub against the fender lip, but instead rubbed against plastic in the middle of the wheel well. Eventually the plastic rubbed away enough so it doesn't make contact anymore, but I've yet to have a full car with my new suspension. I think it should be fine.

In your case I am not sure if it'll rub or not since you're talking about just wider tires, right? I haven't had any rubbing issues against the fender lip if that helps.

I was thinking about doing pretty much the same setup as you (Eibach Pro-Kit + RX8 Wheels) - but if 225/45/18s work, I may go with those. According to wheel calculator websites, 245/40/18's almost a spot on match for rolling diameter, but 225/45/18 wouldn't be too far off either.

you mentioned the drop is subtle, which it appears to be. What is the claimed drop from those, so i can know what they are rated at. Doesn't look to be as much as a set of HR springs which are 1.3/1.2

I believe its .7" rear and .8" front drop. Mine were attempted delivery today but i wasnt home to sign for them

He is correct. I hate missing important packages in the mail.

Yes, they will settle more I think. In person I feel it looks lower than these pictures. Also remember that the RX-8 wheels are an inch wider than factory wheels, so before my car look too high compared to stock. It's just because of the perspective though, the wider they are the bigger fender gap appears to be. Personally I love the drop, perfect for what I wanted. I'll post up some pics in a few weeks if there's any difference after they are broken in.

It's my understanding that most springs nowadays don't really settle much. They're shipped from the factory that way. Perhaps a little bit right after they're installed, but by the time you install them, and drive down the street, you won't see much of a difference after that.

I haven't really seen any more drop from my RM springs since installing them a week ago.

I kind of hope they don't settle more, I think it looks good and shouldn't hinder handling in the snow.
