Inspired by this post, http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=41201.0 , I ordered a set of the emblems from my local dealer. Parts were readily available and they arrived yesterday.

Pic of emblems I plan on installing

The rear emblems were a bit more involved. Unfortunately I dont have pics of all the steps in install but the basic gist was as follows.
1) Using heat gun/blow dryer heat up the circular Mazda flying M emblem and peel back carefully.
2) Mazda lettering on left is held on with 3 pins peel back and away it goes.
3) Remove glue residue from emblem areas.
4) Remove 3 inserts where the pins went on the Mazda lettering.
5) Buff area to remove any leftover glue residue and clean for install.
6) I used a strip of tape to mark a level line accross the bottom of the hatch lining up with the bottom of the Axela badge.
7) Remove interior trim panel from hatch door allowing access to the rear of the metal part of the hatch. use tape to tape the holes shut from behind and to give you a surface for the silicone to adhere to.
8) Use clear RTV silicone to seal holes left from the emblems removal.
9) Peel 3m tape backing off Mazda lettering and carefully line up so lettering covers the 3 holes left over from old emblem removal.
10)Take the new smaller Flying M emblem and use a wire cutter/exacto knife/raser blade to cut 1 of the 2 alignment pins from the back of the emblem.See pic for reference. (I cut the left side one off)
11) Use 3M tape on the rear of the flying M emblem. Recommend 2 layers so it will be flush with the badge edge.
12) use heat gun (wear gloves to avoid burning yourself) to heat up the flying M emblem so you can mold it to your cars curve. I used the right side alignment pin, on the back of the emblem that I didnt clip off, in the right side hole in the body to help align the badge. Alternate heating the badge and bending it till it molds itsself to the cars shape.
13)Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your efforts.

Now I have to find blackchrome spray for the axela emblem....

sweet man, how much did those emblems run you? i was thinking about redoing mine, either color matched to the car, or black.

look pretty nice. the pics don't seem to do em justice. the fact that they're black chrome make them hard to tell apart from regular chrome.

Yea they're awsome looking in person. They were $75 for the set which includes some emblems Im not using (the set is for a Tribute so there is tribute lettering and lxv6 lettering as well). Hardest part was heating the Flying M emblem to be able to mold it to the body shape. Overall Im happy with it....

the rear flying M looks jacked... why is the background filled in with flat black? and why is it off center and crooked?

Its actually not crooked the rear car pics were taken with the car parked on a hill. The car is leaning left as the ground is lower on the left side and my camera is tilted cause I suck at taking pics.... The emblem center is filled in with black. As for it being off center the point of the m is centered with the base of the rear wiper which is centered on the rear tailgate so its as centered as its going to get. Plis I did have to cover the 2 holes left from the old badge with the new emblem ....
I actually like the way it looks. kinda matches with the CF stuff and the dark tint I have going on.....

it really looks like it's torqued to the left and left of center

I'm comparing it to the edge of the glass and the bottom of the hatch (where the handle is)

I will take a better pic (on level ground and I will try to hold the camera straigt for ya)....

For those of you that PMed asking for part # for front emblem
part#=11080004714

BTW:No pics yet will have them by the weekend.....

Great job!
wouldnt it have been cheaper/easier to take off yours, then sand and paint and top it off with clear coat?
i did and mine looks great. I used a charcoal metallic instead but you can find whatever Honestly i dont like the emblem wiht the black background but to each its own. It looks good though.

Looks good, can't go by what you see in pictures to tell if it is straight. I took some pictures of my Z28 last week and the side emblems looked way off, went back outside to look at them and they were straight, the camera adds distortion and my emblems looked about 1/4 inch too high on 1 side.

Cheaper probably. Easier no I work from 6:30 am till 6:30 pm so not alot of free time to do extra stuff. Add to the fact that painting is not my thing, so this will look better than anything I can do, and I guarantee this is better for me.

As promised heres a better pic. Sorry for it being dark but I get out of work late....

yep, left of center, and rotated to the left ;)

not by a ton, but it is

I will give you left of center but honestly in person it doesnt appear rotated to the left... Oh well Still looks sweet to me....

i agree with nate, just slightly rotated to the left and that is why it looks offcenter. if it was straight it would look centered.
hey as long as you think you like.

Glad to see someone else inspired by my post/idea! On the back emblem, I clipped off both pins and used two layers of tape. I think that is where the off-center comments are coming from.
