Ok this is my question.
You hear people say stay away from injen cold air intake do to water in take when it rains.
When it rain there is mist in the air, but I do not see any reason why? But I do not own a CAI on a mazda MP5 yet . I had one on my Cavy and had no problems.

People are saying to go with the short ram , but are you not pulling in hot air from the engine bay?

What do you think?
Is it all :bs: or no?
(bang) (rice) (scratch)

when you are sitting in traffice, YES the AEM will pull in HOT air from the engine compartment....when you are at speed there is a fair amount of air flow through your engine compartment...is the air warmer than the outside air? sure, how much? your guess is as good as anyone elses unless you can do some testing to be sure.....

the INJEN....RAIN is NOT a problem at all, never will be either, the filter is tucked away in a nice protected compartment inside your fender....you would be hard pressed to get water in it if you were using a FIREHOSE!....the only time anyone has experienced a problem with the injen CAI Intake and water is if they have driven throught standing water that would come up to about the bottom of the headlights.....if you are like MOST people and would NEVER EVER even consider driving through standing water no matter what....the injen will NEVER EVER give you any problems. Personally, if I had the choice of pulling over to the side of the road and sitting it out or driving my car through standing water deep enough that if I opened a door it would come into the car...I will be parked...and that would go not only for my P5...but any car I own....if you have a jacked up P/U truck or SUV, that would be a different story.

AS FAR AS gains.....from every thing I have ever seen you are going to get about the same out of either system.

So why is the Injen cold air system so highly regardered?

I'm debating here myself whether or not I should spend the extra money for an Injen...

Right now, I just pulled a plastic piece of intake pipe and it kind of feels a little bit faster, and makes a nice Subaru sound when you hit the pedal to metal.

Anyone else done that?

My AEM

Yeah you're right the Injen does look sweeter. I bought AEM because I had an AEM CAI on my Civic Si and I loved it. I trust AEM so I got it for my P5. I am very happy with it. Plus, my AEM was only $120 from ebay.com! Woot!

You know

If you take the short RAM and put it up towarsd where the over flow is, and build a box around it it would be come a beter cold air intake....

I was just about to say that.....;) Buiklding a box or something that could shield some of the hot air away from the filter will help. It be more difficult than it sounds though.

damn...great deal!!! how about you selling yours for 60 dollars :D

SOLD!!!

i think i will put in my two cents and say go with the injen and a k&n filter, big difference from stock air cleaner

I've used both systems and I prefer the AEM. Which one makes more horsepower? Well, you can look at it this way: take a long straw and take a deep breath, now take the same straw and cut it in half and take another deep breath. Which one was easier to breathe through? Granted, the injen has the advantage of sucking in colder air by being housed in your fender but your engine has to work a little bit harder to get that air. Sure the AEM is breathing in warmer air but I don't think you'll notice the difference. Unless you are a serious racer who feels that 1/1000 of a second is crucial and must have an engine breathing cold air. With the differences in noticable performance gains between the two being so minute it all boils down to looks. Which one looks better to you? Injens are nice and shiny. I chose AEM because I trust them and I don't enter car shows so noone will probably see it anyway. It's your call.

Oh yeah, K&N makes the best filters! Mix-n-match and you're set!
