well I have a p-5...but as far as the fit and finish...they are the same....

don't have the splash guard...OR the bypass valve...neither are needed...just a waste of money in my opinion....that is unless you have a tendency to drive your car off into water a foot or more deep. then you may want to consider a bypass valve.

:{D

oh...if you want to read a LOT on this subject....do a search with the word BYPASS VALVE....and start reading. its been discussed at great length on the board.

yeah...i think it's pretty much a waste of money...do a search like nuke said...every single thread about this is always people who feel you really need it vs. the people who don't think you do...truthfully it's never been proven either way...my advice is to consider where you live...for me i live in az, we get less then 2 in. of rain a year so both of those things would be useless for me...on the other hand if you live somewhere where it does rain you might want to consider getting the bypass valve even though i still don't think you would need it...

Injen

I have the Injen intake on my MP3. I really like the way it sounds and how it is laid out. It usually takes a really big mod to feel a difference, but the design of the thing is smooth. Now my car is begging for cams. Your filter is tucked away pretty well inside the fender, so you really do not need a splash shield. I would recommend a water bypass... but only because it is better to play it safe than sorry. It would probably require you submerging your front end in order to pull water through the intake though.

Pretty much a no brainer to install. Would recommed using rubberized undercoating on the tubing to make the polished aluminum a little more heat resistant (every degree helps).

The injen is pretty nice for what it does. You won't see massive gains unless you follow it with other mods like cams and exhaust but it's still an improvement just the same. One benefit to the injen over the rest is it does not rub anywhere, nor does it draw in overly hot air. I'd say after installing it on my ES I might have seen 2hp increase at the most, not even really enough for the seat of the pants test.

Have had an injen for about a month now. The biggest difference is the throttle response. My mp3 seems more eager to get going now that it did before. Maybe a slight increase in power, but nothing worth giggling over.

As far as the bypass valve, I had some concerns about that too, but decided I didn't really need it. We've had some really heavy rain over here in Jersey the past month and I have so say that I didn't even worry about it. Just watch out for those car-swallowing 2 foot deep puddles.

5horsepower gain and 6.2 lb-fts of torque

s***, whoever owns that nice red 1999 Protege ES that's hosting the 1st annual meet up in Ventura, California that's on june 16th. I know you're on this board but, anyways yeah like i was saying Injen technology used there new prototype cold air intake on his 99 Protege ES 5-Speed and got a gain of 5 horsepower and 6.2 lb-fts pounds of torque. go to protegetech.com and click the annual meet up in june aon the rightside right under srmotorsports.com and scroll down almost all the way down and you'll see the dynosheet. It should look something like this

stockrun#000.2
3rd gear full power
102.8hp 105.0 lb-fts of torque

vs.
Injen cold air intake#000.6
3rd gear full power
107.8hp 111.2lb-fts of torque

so i believe that's something to brag about on a 1.8l DOHC 16-valve engine with 120horses, seing that our MP3's are at 140hp and just looking at that chart our dyno hp run should probably be around 7-10hp and 10-12 lb-fts of torque of gain.

Don't waste your money. I'm selling cold air intakes for a fraction of the price of an Injen, MHP, and AEM. Check out the for sale forum under custom cold air intake's for sale. I've already sold one to Kit Rash and he is fully satisfied. I can't do the polished look, but if you want a color I can do that. Just wanted to let you know your options.
