Injen Cai newbie

i know this sounds dumb. (screwy)

Injen Cai is a ... what? And how does it improve the performance of your car. I read a few pages about it and it still made no sense to me. Seen pictures, I assume is has to do with air intake or something?

CAI= cold air intake. Basically, it sucks in air that is cooler than the air in the engine compartment. The factory intake sucks in air from around the engine that is hot. Hot air is less dense, thus less O2, thus burns worse = less power. Colder air is denser with more 02, thus combusts better = more power. Additional benefits are better filter allows more air flow, staighter path allows faster less turbulent airflow, and it sounds real cool  .

also, there is the sri (short ram intake) from other companies. it still sucks in hot engine air, but with less airflow restrictions than the factory. There are really negligible power gains between the two types (supposedly) with the biggest difference being seen when there is a significant temperature difference in the air being sucked in.

is the injen cai installation normally paired with another car install or can it work separately? secondly, would it void a warranty? sorry about the idiot questions, but I really dont know... LoL <~~ is a girl.

If it was going to void your warranty, you could just take it off and put your stock airbox back on. It's not very likely though that you would get any crap for just a CAI.

Not really sure exactly what you mean by can it be installed seperately. You do not need to install anything else if that is what you are asking.

i think you meant if it is usually installed along with some other modification. it doesn't matter really. but think of it this way, no matter how much you free stuff up on the intake side, you're still gonna have a bottleneck on the exhaust side. so i guess you could say an intake and a full exhaust go together.

Thats a load of crap. Someone go to my dealership and tell them that. The dealership will look for any possible thing to void your warranty for.

I went to a dealership in Colorado, and another in Texas after I installed FMIC, CAI, full exhaust, and BOV in mine. They all liked it, and said that if the parts aren't causing any problems then it's all good. It's not like I was getting an engine replaced though, it was just for clunk and flash. That's why I said she could just take off the intake if something happened that they could link to it.

Drea- I haven't been to any of the service departments around here so I don't know what kind of people they are. If we could find a mod friendly dealer, that would be nice.:D

i haven't heard of 1 person hydrolocking their engine from a cai. You really have to be dumb to do this, you would basically have to submurge the filter and rev the engine to suck up enough water.

Ha..guess what? it doesnt takes a dumbass to hydrolock a car with cai.
in fact it doesnt need to be a flood. dont believe me? ask around.

why even aem bother to make a bypass valve for their Cold air intake if hydrolock rarely happens?

Well actually I'll call them cuz I am not technically dealing with a warranty through a dealership. My warranty comes from Hertz Corporation. :)

i live in tucson... capital of flash floods. go to school, an hour later, a foot of water. not once have i ever had a problem with the CAI without aem's bypass filter. just let off the gas when going through flooded intersections...

if you have seen where the injen goes for our cars, it's surrounded by 4 sides of wheel well. you won't hydrolock from splashing puddles, that's FOR SURE. cause i drive through puddles all the time with nothing happening to my car.

as for the aem bypass filter... well, not only is it a waste of money, it is also a waste of the intake. you negate whatever gains you got from the intake by putting on the bypass. also, i've heard of more people having sucked the bypass filter into their engines than i have of people who have hydrolocked because of the intake.

yeah, I've lived in places where it flooded a lot, and unless you submerge your intake inlet you are not going to hydro-lock your engine. I've blown some headgaskets on some large diesel engines and they filled up the cylinders A LOT of coolant and the starter could still turn the thing over after some extra amprage. now dont get me wrong, I know that you cant compress water but the amount of water you need is a lot more than some rain drops. you literally have to suck up more water than the size of the combustion chamber at TDC.

although, realize that if you do submerge the inlet then it doesnt matter if you have your foot on the throttle or not, even at idle the engine had enough torque/momentum to suck up water with a quickness.

I may be a dumbass, but I believe part of the problem with the AEM CAI is that the filter is positioned openly at the botom of the engine bay, whereas the Injen is fairly well protected within the fenderwell/bumper cavity. But like I said, I'm a dumbass.

I am still waiting for someone to prove to me the the temp. difference of the air that a CAI sucks is somehow giving more HP than the temps an SRI pulls.

Yes technically it is better than the sri. Are you going to be a wrx killer? No. I have a injen. I am very pleased with it... especially with the blue on my laser blue paint job. 1) it sounds really nice. 2) it looks awesome when you open up your engine bay. 3) you will see a performance difference, but like anything else for $200, it's not going to be much without the addition of other mods eg: exhaust/header :D
