here are my initial settings for my greddy profec b spec 2.

these got me where i want to be. 15psi in Low, and 17.5 in High. I may play with the gain, to get it a little more aggressive, but for right now, its good.

Low Settings:
Set - 31% (~15psi)
Gain - 8%
Set Gain (Start Boost) - 116 (11.6psi)
Warning - 166 (16.6psi)
Limit - 10%

High Settings:
Set - 39% (~17.5psi)
Gain - 9%
Set Gain (Start Boost) - 130 (13.0psi)
Warning - 185 (18.5psi)
Limit - 10%

It sucks that they allow you to set some settings in psi, but others (the more important ones particularly, like set) in a percentage... adds a few minutes to the process.

have a full tank of gas... youll use half of it with all the WOT passes you'll be taking...

also: when you are making a WOT pass, ease into the gas... you dont want it shooting up to 20+psi. if you ease into it, you'll be able to see the boost getting too high before things go wrong.

Im still not sure why when you set the boost in 5th gear, it will not match the boost in other gears... kinda lame.

i get ~14psi in first, 15 in second, then 17+psi in the rest....

Nice very nice...sweet write up...this should be a sticky and you sir will go down in the history books as the first to install and tune a greddy profec b spec II. Thank you for being the first and recording your findings and making it easier for others that will follow like me...i might have to up the %'s a bit and see if it will it a solid 18.Thanks again

Nice review man, you will have to keep us up to date if and when you make any changes and if there are any issues that arise. Do you know what your AFR is on either?

Not just yet. I plan to take it to the dyno to find out soon...

laloosh had a wideband on his at a good bit higher psi, and said he saw nothing higher than low 11's on the AFR...

I am not 100% as I haven't used a Profec in a while but doesn't reducing the gain eliminate the spike when you mash the go pedal?

the lower the start boost the slower the spool, you want it as close to your set value as possible, without getting spikes. so they recommend about 4psi less than your "SET" value

Im not sure i correctly understand exactly what the gain does.

If its too high, you will get surging. Too low, and your boost will fall off at high RPMs.

The manual and tutorials say to set the gain as high as possible without getting surging.

I just messed with it on the way to the post office and was able to set it to the max (35%) without any surging. This may be different in when the whether changes, but for now, it will stay.

1st / 2nd gear.... any traction at all? :P

Get the rear mount, it'll help I promise, and now we know how to ghettomod it to make it more bearable.

The gain tells the controller how fast to respond to changes from set point. If set too high it will "hunt" around the set point by over and under shooting it. Basically surging as you called it. If you see your boost fluctuate above and below the setpoint, then you'll need to lower it. Until then, keeping it high allow it to spool faster and respond to any changes from the setpoint.

Nice work and keep us posted!

I completely changed the settings since the first post.

I was able to up the Start Boost alot without hitting spike. this aided in spool time... but i had to lower the set level to keep the boost level the same...

thats awsome. please post up the new settings your running. how is it pulling now with the new settings vrs the old setting? when are u feeling the spool start? dose the spool start earlier than stock? doe the boost hold closer to redlineor dose it still fall off? thaks again

the spool is much faster than stock... almost to the point where you dont feel the lag when you stomp the gas...

i got the Startboost even closer to the SET value again today... still no spike. im wondering why the evo guys recommend setting it 4psi lower than SET... im less than 1psi below now, and no spike.

will post the settings in the morning.

i guess those ev guys are little girls. i cant wat to do my install this up coming week. cat wat too see the new settings. dose the boost fluxtuate at all? thanks again

I do not have a Speed3, but I have experienced adjusting the Greddy Profec on my MSP. It does take a while. I finally got mine dialed in how I want it. It's a very finnicky unit and it takes time.

With all that said, it seems like you're doing a good job with it.

no fluctuation at all. boost holds rock solid at where i set it...

for some reason it is very nervewrecking driving with it at 17+ psi... i need to get on the dyno (hopefully tomorrow) to check my afr...

Sweet so what is the new setup?? can you please post...and 17+?? dose that mean your boosting up to 18psi??thanks again..

a warning to everyone. IF you put an EBC or MBC on a car with the turbo the size of a skittle you will induce very lean conditions at lower rpms into your engine. there is a reason that all turbo cars use a boost salenoid and that all professional cars that run an EMS use boost salenoids. to control and raise boost in conjunction with proper fuel/throttle delivery. Even if you are using the most expensive EBC on the market you will still induce PTB while doing simple driving. good example, creating 8-10psi while babying the throttle @ 1500-2000rpms isnt healthy for your pistons. i've been doing this for a while so i hope you guys heed. personally get an EMS or piggyback that will utilized the factory boost salenoid.

ebc - electronic boost controller
mbc- manual boost controller
ptb - PART THROTTLE BOOST

And you are???Not to sound like a dick...there are plenty of ppl with ms3 running mbc for a while and havnt had a problem yet. also alot of gti's have been running ebc and mbc for a while now and we practicly share the same turbo..so i ask again who are you to make such a statement....Shoot i know plenty of SRT4's, STI's, and EVos personaly that have been running mbc on thier cars for years and have yet to see any problems..yes and ems would be great but the one i want is not out yet so the ebc will keep me happy till the cobb ap comes out..this isnt my solution for the remainder of the time i have my car just a for now solution..To the original OP Hows the car running havnt heard from you in a while....
