In the market - How are the 2014's holding up?

I've had my 2014 CX-5 2.5 AWD since I purchased it in February of 2014 and I have loved it ever since. At 65,000km (40,380 miles) it's running great with nothing more than scheduled maintenance! The only issue I have run into is with the right rear shock absorber. It started to make a chirping noise going over speed bumps. Thankfully it was under warranty and it was replaced in under an hour. Love my Mazda!

Got my all-new 2014 CX-5 GT in May of 2013. 65,000 miles on it already (!) -- regular dealer maintenance, on schedule; no issues whatsoever; very happy. My only minor complaint is hearing that only some parts of my leather upholstery are actually leather. Kinda torques me, but I also hear all the car makers do that. Overall a very versatile vehicle, still looks and drives great, and I make use of it both with full passengers and with rear seats down, hauling musical equipment on a regular basis. My mileage is a very consistent 26 - 27 MPG but I drive fast (when I'm not sitting still in commuter traffic!). I'm sure I could get 28 or better if I wanted to.... Overall, I'd rate my satisfaction at about a 95. Still wish there were a few more little storage spots but that's pretty minor.

EDIT: I was reminded by another post here that I don't think my "auto" windshield wiper setting has anything whatsoever to do with "rain sensing" -- as I recall, I found that my rain-sensing setting wipers did their thing every 10-15 seconds or so even on a perfectly dry day. The frequency was exactly the same as the very lowest intermittent setting. Now that I remember this, I'll have to check it out next chance I get. Any thoughts on this from others?

Yeah... everything but the highest of end cars are pure leather. My '07 Infiniti is the same way with only partial leather.

AUTO should be rain sensing and then you refine sensitivity with traditional interval knob.

Rain-sensing auto wipers can be turned off via vehicle setup screen. Yours may be off. But CX-5's rain-sensing wipers are not as precise and sometimes not as responsive as my 2000 BMW 528i's. You may be expecting too much⋯ :)

BTW, our BMW 528i does have full-covered leather seats. And the leather feels like genuine and soft, whereas leather in CX-5 feels like made of "leatherette".

Leather Seats

I know I was comparing apples to oranges on these leather seats. But I just wanted to point out that not "all the car makers do that" as stated by CeeEx5. And I do feel like the "leather" part of seating surface of CX-5's leather seats simply just doesn't feel like genuine leather!

I understand...

I just like leather, vinyl, leatherette...etc for ease of cleanup if a seat gets dirty.

I have 2 '14. I'd pass.

Tranny is s*** in terms how it shifts. Infotainment needs to be replaced right away if you use it. It is not a bad car, it is just meh.

Let's see what '17 brings.

True; you can get leather all over from BMW and Mercedes for about $8000 extra. Some leather options are higher.

Porsche offers ala carte leather options, such as a leather vent louvres (yes...the slats are covered in leather) for a stunning $2500 (depends on how many vents). Makes the $675 leather rear view mirror seem reasonable.

Transmission is ok for me, but "meh" sums up how I feel. Absolutely not a bad car though.

I wonder how much satisfaction goes with the trim line one purchased? Just my opinion when I sat in some '16.x models at last dealer visit I didn't really feel the touring and sport models compared very well to my prev gen '15. I realize this is all subjective though.

Good point; I probably would be more satisfied with a 16.5 GT with Tech, but I couldn't justify spending that much when I could have purchased a CPO '14 X3 or Q5 for the same amount. I paid 24.5 for my Sport AWD, which is a pretty decent number in the small crossover category.

My dad owns a carpet cleaning company so I'm the opposite, lol!

Seriously, owned both, and leather is sexier, but cloth is much more functional for the intended purpose until you get into suede, which is a b**** to clean if truly dirty.

I mirror that. I'm happy with my cx5. It's an appliance though, and if it got smashed by a tree or something in a storm, I'd shrug and go buy something else, or maybe another one. Whatever. It's a good vehicle.

Auto tranny shifts pretty smooth when it does shift. Are you referring to the tranny not shifting fast enough since its tuned to hold gears for increased mpgs? Perhaps a cvt from Honda or Subaru is more your choice as its more linear and immediate.

That said the CX-5 is either mid-pack or higher in its class in terms of speed. The class itself ranges from 7.5-9 seconds no matter what type of tranny.

This is exactly how i feel. It is a nice low level vehicle that I'm pleasantly happy with for now. All in all one of my best "I kond of don't care just give me something I can be happy with for a bit purchases".
