Ran across this Japan and Canada part only on the CX-7 message board and ordered two for my wife's new CX-7. Installing them was a snap in her two empty panels (Car is loaded, not sure why they left 2 blanks other than lazy engineers).
Althought I don't have space on my driver's console for any of these, I believe some of the non-AWD CX-9s probably have 1 or 2 blanks in their dash. The control buttons in her car seem to be identical shape as those in my CX-9. So I don't know why it wouldn't fit, but may be worth a try if you have space.
I found them on eBay shipping from Taiwan and Canada mostly. Found mine at Montgomery Mazda, Charlotte, NC. Part # is G22C-55-225 as seen on the Image 2 attached.
