In boost losing power

My protege feels like it's losing power when you get into boost. My car only has a short ram intake on it. Is that just how a mazdaspeed protege feels or is there something wrong.

its the bad stock tune on these cars. they usually feel like they hit a brick wall if you mash on the gas pedal around 4200ish rpms. Get it tuned on a ssafc if you don't have one already.

also check for any vac leaks. make sure all the hoses and coupler/clamps are tight around the piping. especially since the plastic piping can crack also over time

Hey protege3690, is Unichip PnP and SSAFC something to be compared to or they are two totally different things and they both have different jobs?
My MSP usually do feel like it runs into a brickwall when I get to 1 PSI, I assumed it was the wastegate actuator, I will replace it one of these sunny warm days
And there are some days where my boost is soooo good to me randomly :)

theyre both air/fuel controllers. the Unichip is p&p with an EBC. BUT you can not tune it yourself unless you buy the software from unichip directly. otherwise you have to go to a unichip auth. dealer/tuner to tune it for you for your specific mods.

the ssafc is the best bang for the buck and is tuner friendly. comes with the software needed to tune it. the ssafc v2 has the ability to datalog so tuning becomes easier. and theres plenty of support for it on the forum with a thread open with a few maps on ther already that you can work with. the ssafc is really only limited to about 14-15 psi (YOULL NEED A BUILT BLOCK FOR THOSE #'S) but itll definitely help tune the car to a night and day difference.

is your CEL on by any chance? if you hitting fuel cut at 1psi theres something definitely wrong. whenever I hit fuel cut is when I had an issue with my VTCS solenoid which kept triggering my CEL and caused me to hit fuel cut at 4psi .

STOP IT!!!!......let's not over think this, the most simple thing to do is to do a LEAK DOWN TEST!! Do this FIRST!!!!

Thanks for that information, I wonder why Unichip PnP is more expensive than SSAFC, maybe I can torrent the software from piratebay LOL, might as well sell my Unichip PnP and buy the SSAFC.

I had the same boost problem for quite a while now, some days it would randomly be amazing good and most days it would run like shizz. I took it too a performance shop and they couldn't find a boost leak. That was back in September, Ill check again this time my self, I assume it still the same. So I must assume wastegate actuator. Which I currently have by Forged, maybe the diaphragm might be shredded...

The Forge WGA in my car has been very inconsistent in boost and will spike. It sounds like you have other issues with your car though.

U can easily check your wga by blowing into it if u can blow into it it's bad also if your wast gate is adjustable make sure it's adjusted properly there are plenty of vids on this also outside air temp makes a big difference on how much boost you can run specially on stock tune
