2018 CX-5 GT
Bought the car in March 2021 with only 19 K Kms. on it from a local Mazda dealer. Purchased an aftermarket extended warranty for added peace of mind (will expire Mar.2026 - Not used to date).

This was my first Mazda purchase. I've been a Ford/Mercury/Lincoln guy most of my driving life. Decided to give the Mazda a try and haven't regretted it to date.

The Good:

Very nicely appointed features and interior materials (GT). The heads up display has really grown on me. Car runs smoothly and is pretty economical on gas. General maintenance has been easy to perform.

Issues:

Dealer replaced Switchable HLA's and motor mount, both under TSB's. Climate control is a little flakey at times. Car feels a bit underpowered at times (mostly when A/C is running). Paint chips easily (Crystal Soul Red Metallic).

Will I buy another Mazda when the time comes? I'd definitely consider it.

Hope others will share their experience.

One of the most common complaints about modern Mazdas is that even though the paint is the most gorgeous of anything on the road today, it is soft so it scratches easily, and thin so it chips easily. And because it is so specialized, most shops can't respray it.

Sheet metal is definitely too thin. I have a few dings on my 16 that you can only see from an angle. I always try to park away from people and I don't think they're from other cars, more likely little pebbles thrown up from the road. Luckily no paint scrap so they can be removed by PDR.

My hood is a disaster from the aggregate (small rock chips) they put down here (Calgary) in the winter. I've used the Mazda touch up paint, but I'm not sure what looks worse; the untouched chips or the repaired ones. Had I known about the soft paint, I would have taken it to a shop to get some PPF applied.

Also had someone drag something sharp across the passenger door for about 15-20 inches. Tried to polish it out, but no go.....too deep.
