2001 Mazda MP3
Mazda dealer called me back and said this:

cylinder four lost SOME compression- its down to 75lbs.
cylinders one two and three are (normal?) at 175lbs compression each.

they'd have to take the cylinder head off to know exactly. He said im looking at $1100 dollars estimate to get her going well again.

COMMENTS SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!!
they won't know for sure what happened until they take the cylinder head off.

they called mazda, mazda voided my warranty on the engine due to nitrous (obviously) However, I am thinking of what the outcome is I may talk to Mazda USA and see.

and he said he thinks it'd be done wednesday. he also said they had to 'ship it out' and look at it somewhere (does this mean SHIPPING it, or something else in the dealer?)

I'll pray for you bro it is what I do best next to runnig boats.

Wish there was something I could do to help, Sorry.

They would probably send it out to hve it dyed. (they put a dye through the oil/coolant channels to see if it leaks into the block, and the head.

I would look around ar junkyards, but you are not close to home. (sorry bout that bro) 1100 bucks actually does not sound bad to get a blown engine fixed, but I would find out what exactly needs to be done.

call mazda na first. they cant void the warranty until they know it was the juice. of course if it was then you will be stuck with the bill. but they cannot tell you your warranty is void until they can prove it was something you did.

hell its probably 1100 just to get the heads taken off and have them look at it

I say either find another engine or rebuild it yourself if you're able. the dealer will charge you an arm and a leg for it. of course, I guess they might warranty their work or something?? (but not if you leave the nx on I guess)

There is a test they can do for nitrous though. If it is not the medical grad nitrous, then they can test your oil for sulfur content. The nitrous you get from nitrous refill stations is usually NOT medical grade nitrous, and has sulfur in it to keep folks from sniffing it. Now does everyone believe me and MP3-Owner when we say Nitrous + MP3 = $$$$ (only a matter of time).

follow up: its $500 and change to tear down (6.5hrs) and he said worst case, $1100 out the door, so he hopes.

ill call mazda usa.

Ahh..Linux..That's not true..I have been runnin an MP3 ecu..w/ my nitrous setup..with no ILL AFFECTS!

PHAudio..How did you know you lost compression? I alwayz get the medical grade :)

Why didn't you take the bottle off before going in? Or did you? Also you should have changed the oil!

Sorry to hear about your situation..but hey..i constantly see protege 2.0L engines for sale for like 500-700usd on Ebay!

Chas

MAZDA USA is calling the dealer directly, we'll see what happens.

I'm concerned that they voided the warranty before even knowing exacctly what the problem is.

dealer did compression test.
bottle was gone. i can really get the oil changed, im 200miles from home, time is of the essence.

waiting for MUSA to call me back...

But how did you notice that you lost compression?? How did the car act? Or did you just bring it in..for some test??

Chas

dude you can change the oil. . make a quick trip to wal-mart. . get the jackstands and jack for 25 bux and oil for 6.88 and a pan. . . have at it in the parking lot for liek 20 min. . .then return the jack and jack stands. . .heh

What do you mean by stumbling? As in when you hit the gas..the car would give power..and than lose power? Did this happen right after shootin?? Or just while drivin?

Chas

He said he was not running Nitrous

yeah..linux..But thank god..i am getting out..going w/ a Turbo Setup...and getting a p5 ecu!

:)

Chas

That's good to hear. Even then, as you know with my setup, Murphy's Law is still in effect. Hope I didn't sound like a dick.

Naa..it's all good..I understand where you are coming from..I don't think it was directly related to the nitrous..but there is a good chance..depending on the usage...or even worst..w/ an injen CAI..leaning out the mixture..and also..with the fuel he was filling up w/...etc!
