Local police and several area chapters of Mothers Against Drunk Driving say the NHL team's offer is irresponsible.

"Why attach alcohol to a season-ticket plan? It's almost encouraging people to drink more than they should because it is free," said Sgt. Chris Velar, who runs the Police Department's drunken driving squad.
The offer is not irresponsible. If someone drinks too much, and drives home, then yes THEY are being irresponsible, but it is not the NHL team's fault!

What's next? Are people going to complain about open bars at weddings and other events, because it's 'promoting drinking and driving'?

:wtf: IT'S NOT PROMOTING DRINKING AND DRIVING!! THE STADIUM OFFERS FREE TAXI RIDES HOME FOR DRUNK PEOPLE!! THEY ARE PROMOTING SAFETY!! :wtf:

that is stupid as hell......plus my niece just had her wedding and that open bar was the shizzle :)

I agree with you but in this world full of vaginas we live in everything is everyone elses fault; unless of course everyone else happens to be you, then in that case it's someone else's fault.

People that are unable to accept responsibility for their own actions should be forced to commit suicide. (thumb)

While I don't think it's the NHL's fault, I do see where that could lead to someone making a stupid decision. I know if I had free beer, I might not think twice about grabbing one more cup. Next thing you know, I'd be too impaired to drive, but since my judgement might be impaired as well, I just might think I can make it home okay...I mean, UNLIMITED free beer? What's wrong with like a 3 drink maximum? I mean, you could always pay for them if you still wanted more...

I agree with the author. I would love to buy season tickets and sit down with 1 free beer. I'm sure it's not more than that because you'll probably buy more after you've already had one.

I wish more stadiums would do that, especially pittsburgh for 2 reasons. 1, I'm moving there, and 2, they need gimmicks to fill the place after finishing last overall.

I'm sick and tired of people complaining about things that well, I usually find no problem with. However, this is america, the country that is built upon bitching and whining until your side of the argument wins for whatever reason.

Awww ...**** IT!

Why even be bothered by stuff like this.

comon...

i get wasted when i go to hockey games... but you know what? I KNOW i'll get wasted beforehand so i don't take my fucken car.

God i'd wish they do that here... its like 8.50$ for a beer during a hockey game we have to fill up before the game so we don't get ruined..... anyhow... if i KNEW they give free beer, i just wouldn't take my car. Its not like the people get there and go "Oh right i forgot i have season tickets so i can have free beers".. they know beforehand. And if they are irresposible enough to take their car, its not because they are offering free beer because those same people would spend 200$ getting drunk and still take their car... its because they are idiots and deserve to go to jail.

I hate it when people b**** about everything... let us live for god's sake...

My point exactly :)

Apparently the deal was for free beer during the playoffs if you bought $100 worth of season tickets. That seems hardly worth arguing over.

It's all an attempt to boost ratings! Free beer = drunken idiots that may be caught on camera doing something either very funny or very stupid. People will watch to see if some clown from Philly "drains the vein" on the glass behind the Tampa Bench! Ratings go up, NHL continues play next year etc. etc. etc.

Seriously, though. For people to be that upset about FOUR free "beverage" coupons is rediculous. It's a one-time deal, not like you get free beer for every game of the following season. People need to realize there are more pressing issues to deal with.
