I'm not boosting in 1st gear, normal?

1st gear is a lot different than 2nd gear, as far as load and spool time are concerned. Regardless, I'm not sure what to tell you about the problem you're having. I'll think about it.

I mean i can hear the turbo spooling, but I don't get past 0 on the gauge.

Yeah, your car should boost in first gear.... I dont know why you are not boosting in first gear, when you build boost in second gear at what rpm do you reach full boost?

I do have a crack on the exhaust manifold. Could that be the cause? Or would it have to be a bigger leak than that?

I don't think it's boost gauge related because we can still build boost in all other gears, just not in first.

Fix the leak, and if the car is still doing it, come back and post. 1st gear does not create much load for the turbo to spool, but with a gt25, it should still spool pretty significantly in 1st. Having back pressure kept in the turbo will allow it to spool quicker. So having a bigger exhaust does contribute to less back pressure, but I do not think enough to cause you not to boost in 1st.

A crack manifold would lose a lot of back pressure to the turbo especially when the leak is before the turbo. So like I said, fix the leak and check for boost leaks from the wastegate all the way to the throttle body. Just because your have no vacuum leak, does not mean you have no boost leaks.
