Im Going to the Dyno...

Well I was suppose to go to the Dyno today at a place on the south side of chicago but the shop was closed..It makes me mad because I talked to the guy on Friday and asked if I should make a appt. and they said No Just Come In.So I just came in today and find that nobodys is there and they are not answering the phone.They are suppse to be open today so I left a message to thank them for saving me $125 and a few other choice words..

Anyways I found another shop with a Dynojet Auto Chassis Dynomometer Model 248X that is closer to my house.I made a appt. for Monday the 17th and I cant wait.From what Ive read this is a very good Dyno to use and it gives good actual numbers.Here is there web page if anyone wants to looks at it.http://www.mrozcompleteauto.com/pages/1/index.htm

This is my first time to a Dyno so Im very excited.
 
Hey Shark, want to start some kind of IN MS3 owners club? Or at least a loose association?? Heh. Lemme know - would be cool to get together a few times and time bolt-on upgrades and help each other out.

Thanks CX-7s.I was looking around the house for a box/window type fan but cant find one.I may have to goto the store and buy a cheap one.I was also thinking,SHould I reset my ecu before I go there?

Well, lol, sort of. Closer than So Cal or Miami like most of our members. I'm in Indianapolis - thought it would be cool to have a board member and fellow MS3 helping each other on a Saturday or something. If you're an hour south of Chicago, you're about 2 hours north of me, not much a drive for either one of us.
 
It might be a good Idea to reset the ECU, but I would recommend a fan on top of the intercooler so you can sorta replicate the Ram Air that the MS3 would get normally when driving around, someone did not put a fan directly on top and got major heat soak, I wonder why!?
 
The shop should have a big "shop" fan that they use in front of the vehicle. Call them and ask what their normal procedure is for they dyno pull.

How many pulls are you getting? What gear will they be making the pull in? Do they normally do it with the hood open or closed?

To get a true number (if possible) I would suggest huge fan in front of the vehicle to allow air to run through the channels to the TMIC with the hood closed. Of course everyones method is different. Just my 0.02. Have fun and post the numbers!!
 
I was thinking I would do all 3 pulls with the hood open and with the cover off the IC with a fan sitting on top of the IC.From what people say on the boards I should do my pulls in 4th gear with DSC off.Im just glad they have a DynoJet and not a mustang dyno or something like that.

The shop fan will not recreate the RamAir the MS3 would normally get.
 
not trying to be an ass at all, but why are you going to a dyno? not saying you shouldnt , just curious, I am on a limited budget and every penny that I throw at the car will be to make it faster but it seems to me that taking a car to a dyno for the sake of knowing if it makes 237whp or 243whp is a waste , in my day we would take our cars to the dyno to tune the carburetor , spark curve on the ignition, connect the dual exhaust for torque vs hp and other things , but we used the dyno as a tuning tool to set up the vehicle for the best results that you could achieve with what was on the car , nowadays I think most people have 3 pulls done on their cars , have nothing changed to optimize performance and carry that dyno sheet in the glovebox for bragging rights. Just seems like $125 down the drain, but hey I am a poor mofo so thats that.
 
and I am not saying that your vehicle is unmodified , I am saying that if you take your car to a dyno they should be "tuning" it for optimal performance while the car is there not just give you a reading of what your car can do without seeing if theres more juice in the fruit.

As far as taking my car to the dyno,It sounds like fun and Id like to get a idea what kinda power I have.Ill be taking it back after I get cobbs Ap also.I know what you are trying to say but I can afford it.Next summer Im going to take it to the drag strip.

From the pics on their site looks like they do it with the hood open and an industrial fan blowing from about 10 to 15 feet (guessing) For s**** n giggles try and have them do a run with the hood closed after your 3 open hood runs so we can see if there is a big difference from one method to another.

Lenny127: Most people would like to know where they stand prior to making any modifications so that they have a good history of what one part is doing compared to another. I want a stock baseline before I start my modifications so that we can share our numbers (not for boasting) so that we can all make more informed decisions on what route we take for future modifications. It all comes down to the mighty dollar and I for one would like to be sure that I am getting the best bang for my buck. If you can get in on a Dyno day the cost is normally minimal but I also see your point.
 
I just went to the dyno but Im at work now so I cant post the results yet,I will when I get off at 11pm.I put down 268hp and 281Tq..I pretty happy with those result and the fact it was done on a dyno jet.My boss is coming so I will talk later..
 
Ok,Here is some more info..We did 3 pulls with the hood open and a fan in front of the car and 1 sitting on top of the IC.All 3 were done in 4th gear with 93 octane gas.We could not get the air/fuel ratio because he could not get the O2 sensor out of the DP.He said it would only turn a hair then stop and he said it was starting to strip out so he didnt want to try anymore.

Here are the numbers for each run:
1st run:268.32 Hp 281.91Tq
Waited 2 minutes then
2nd: 262.80Hp 281.65Tq
Waited 4 minutes then
3rd:262.85Hp 281.74Tq

The weather was about 74F,29.39in-Hg and not too humid.I have a few videos I will post also.
