Hey fellow Mazda fanatics! I'm getting married this November and my wife and I will be spending our honeymoon on Oahu from 11/20 to 11/25. I was wondering if you guys could let me in on some things to do besides what we will be doing in the hotel room. Also, is renting a condo in Makaha beach a good idea? I was thinking the sunsets might be pretty nice!
Thanks guys!

oahu has a lot of things to do... being that youre from the mainland you probably want to get to a "luau"... its basically a hawaiian picnic, try checking out either koolina, germaine's luau or polynesian culture center... i think those are the best. makaha has a nice view, but you will be out in booney land and there is traffic getting out there from mid afternoon to night. if i were you i would stay in waikiki in a beach front hotel. how old are you and what do you like to do... ill base my next set of recommendations off of that question...

I'm 28 and love to do all sorts of stuff, skydive, scuba, hike, horesback...She's 19 and loves to do active stuff too. She's never been to Hawaii and I've been once, like 10 years ago.

scuba dive out sharks cove on the north shore & u can also swim w/ the sharks....mokuleia 2 skydive as well as horseback riding, hiking all over the islands diamond head crater has a fee however, that is an easy hike and an awesome view makapuu point is nice as well. nuuanu and aiea loop are for the modest hikers. make sure u know the weather patterns & bring a cell ph. if you're going to stay out in makaha, stay in the room otherwise stay in waikiki if you want to venture. koolina resort is the furthest i'd go. there's also paradise cove luau and polynesian cultural center. there's lots to do...have fun.

it's not far being where you're comming from...rather, i just wouldn't go there period even as a local unless you belong there...if you do stay there, i'd be back before the sun goes down. sun rises about 6:15 a and sets about 6:30 p

Is it dangerous after sunset?

it can be sketchy. waikiki is probably a better bet, there's tons of stuff in walking distance. and you can always rent a car and go drive around the island to spots like matsumotos on the north shore. shave ice!

wow, things are really falling into place for you! congrats on getting in! any other news i should know about? hahahaha.

makaha/waianae is like the compton of oahu... lol, the watts or however you spell it... waikiki or koolina would be good... maybe look into renting a vacation home out on the north shore... i know they have a couple out there and that would be pimp! let me know when youre coming... id love to show you what this p5 can do!

congrats ddogg,

not from hawaii, but as a tourist who was recently there, perhaps some experiences of mine to throw in here.

as suggested, diamond head hike, and the makapuu lighthouse were great hikes. Wife and I enjoyed them alot! If you do the makapuu lighthouse, go down the mountainside near the wale sign thingy (jsut be careful) there are some blowholes down there.. and some stacked rocks. (see if you can find mine, lolz) If you go hiking, go early. like 7am. beat the sun and heat.

we did the polynesian cultural center thing. was good, but we didn't go long enough. But if you do go, spend the whole day there. The show at night is fantastic, and the samoa village show was VERY well done. (quite humorous)

My brother had some "magic" book that had lots of tips for us haoles. lolz.. i think it was the discover hawaii series or something like that. worth getting.

matsumoto's was good too.

just don't let the wife know you are checking out the island protege's.. haha

hmm like a little corner store.. but they "specialize" in shaved ice.. kinda like a snowcone.
you can get icecream underneath the ice.. it's a really nice treat after a day at the beach.. or during.. heh.

i think they have their own website
http://www.matsumotoshaveice.com/

matsumoto's it's in haleiwa town out on the north shore. it's a mom-san/pop-san (small store that provides a bit of everything to snack on and other misc. products) store that is now run by their grandchildren. you call it a snow cone, we call it
shave(d) ice. we do it hawaii style. we pile on condensed milk, azuki (sugared red beans...like sweetened refried beans), and vanilla ice cream. there's another better place in waikele shopping center out side of lowe's. the shaved ice is a finer cut...however, everyone know's matsumoto shaved ice. tourist come from all over to go there. watch out for the bees. since we're on food, make sure you check out giovanni's kahuku shrimp shack out in kahuku past north shore and rainbow's plate lunch in kapahulu just out side of waikiki. get the mixed plate. they pile on two scoops of rice, macaroni (elbow noodle with lots of mayonnaise) salad, teri steak (teriyaki flavored flank), breaded chicken, breaded mahi mahi (fish) and make sure you tell them gravy all over and get a slushie (slushy juice) to go. peace

i'm not sure if anything will be available. people usually reserve a full year in advance. my friend's cousin owns 1 of those houses out there as a vacation rental and it's usually pre-paid for over a year in advance. then again, you could get lucky. it's nice to use those rentals if you get a good one and the beach is right there. north shore beaches are steep and long. you may want to think about our hurricane season. we're in the middle of a heavy season right now. make sure if you do stay there, that you know where to go in case we do get hit. don't want to scare you; but we're having a busy season and if you're staying in a vacation rental on a beach, those are the on the front line of a nice beating in the event of a storm.

Hey guys, I need some advice on where the best beach locations might be. I'm looking for romantic, not super busy. Also, I've been toying with the idea of staying a few nights in Kaua'i since there are more condos available there, any recommendation on which side of the island I should look into? :)
