Illumination wire?

I just finished hard wiring my new HU's wiring harness to the stock HU harness adapter but I discovered a problem (maybe)...

The stock HU harness adapter that I bought has an orange wire on it for the dimmer/illumination but the new HU's wiring harness doesn't! Does that mean the illumination on the new HU works independently of the car's dashboard illumination?

It's a Panasonic, model # CQ-C1301U. My car is a 2001 Protege. I haven't yet removed the stock HU so I haven't seen the wiring configuration for it. It probably wouldn't help me anyway. Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

I believe the wiring harness is the same. In any case, there should be an illumination wire. It won't be a variable dimmer on the aftermarket head unit but it should trigger some sort of dimming mechanism when the interior lights turn on.
