If Your Lsd Broke Read This!

hey people i am in the usual shoes of you people because mine broke and of course the dealer does not want to cover it... but i was wondering if people have had the problem with a stock mazdaspeed... even though i am going to use the magnussom moss act, i want some back up from people with stock or extremely mild modifications done to their mazdaspeeds... i know there is the thread with the lsd failures but it only says the miles on it... thanks for the info.

my lsd broke and I took my car to them and they told me that the clutch was shot.. So I had a new clutch put in the car and it was the lsd coem to find out. I ended up paying for the clutch but they did fix the lsd..

i don't see why you had to pay for the clutch...they replaced it thinking it was the problem...it diagnosed wrong....you shouldve asked to put the old one in....

That list of 40 and growing is good enough to prove its a weak link. Some of them were stock cars when they broke, some were not. Tell them to put in writing why and how it broke.

Prove?

Dude, We have known that since 2003 when the first one Popped and the stream of LSD Boom threads...

:)

But unfortunately the mazda rep isnt playing nice with me and need all the back up that i can get. i figured this might be a little bit quicker then pm'ing everyone that has had the problem.

When I took my car in after the LSD broke they told me it was the clutch as well, so I ordered my spec stage 3 overnight. Then they tore it apart and it was the LSD, just like I told them. They told me oh no LSD's dont break, haha yeah right ,you should have seen the look on their face when I was right and they were wrong. Anyways I didnt even try to get it covered under warrenty b.c I had 47k miles on the car and mods. Mods included CAI, FMIC, Unichip, Exhaust, springs, and a bunch of other little mods. It was in November, in fact almost exactly a year ago, so the boost was most likely set between 8-10psi due to the weather.

mine broke I think

well last night some friends and I were coming home from having dinner just as I'm going to get back on the freeway I hear the rpm's go high when stepping into the gas. The car will drive, only if I'm very easy with it. I managed to get into a gas station at least. The wierd thing is it still drives but it sounds like a loud squeak or screaching as I try to move the car. Has anyone broken the diff and been able to drive the car, I thought that when it breaks thats it your not going anywhere.

Mine did not move.
You hear grinding noises. Not squeaking.
That's is for me.

this sounds shity, My lsd hasn't gone out yet, in fact my e-brake has! haha, i got a call from the dealer it took them a couple months or so to get the part in. Well quite to say my dealership ahs been awsome, just hope they stay that way when my and if my lsd goes down the hole.

Hope all your stuff goes through! Hey one more thing isn't there a recall or whats that thing called, a TBQ or something like with the flash..I forgot but there should be some kind of recall for the LSD or replacement.

its a TSB = technical service bulletin or technical safety bulletin as some dealers call it

I was stock.
Replaced the all transmission for free

I was stock except for a BOV, which doesn't up the power. I printed a pile of threads from this forum, including the "lsd failure registry" along with pictures of failed lsd's. I told them, "If it doesn't look like these, then we'll talk. Otherwise, I'll assume it failed in the same place as all the others and will be covered under warranty." It broke at the welds just like everyone elses, and it was covered with minimal questions asked. I even got them to take my replacement to a welder before reinstallation (but had to waive the remainder of the tranny warranty).

It's all in the preparation and approach if you think they'll go squirrelly on you.

Tell them they're welcome to call Mazda Knoxville in Knoxville, TN for more info on how common this is. That dealer has replaced several, and I know they'd remember mine if you told them to ask about the Spicy Orange from Chattanooga.

mine broke when I was completely stock, car was launched mayb 5 times in its life, and never even really hard. Didn't like track days i guess:-)

I think mine just went kaboom. Im typing this AT the dealer. I was driving up through a parking garage at a mall and the tranny started grinding. I babied it halfway down, trying to get to the ground level but about halfway it just stopped working.

I can shift through all the gears and reverse without pressing the clutch in. Of course the dealer initially told me it needs a clutch. They are paying for my rental car, and Im pretty sure they are gonna find a bad lsd when they tear it open.

Question though...can the broken lsd do any damage to the clutch? If so then im definitely trying to get the clutch done under warranty as a related defect if the lsd bork3d it. If not then I'll probably buy a good clutch and have them install it while they're in there doing the lsd.

also, whats the standard warranty on the MSP 36K or 50K? Im at 34656 so Im good either way, just wondering how long I probably have left.

stock msp warranty = 3 years 50,000 miles

my LSD broke when my only mods were injen cold air intake and turbo xs type-h34 bpv. Niether the bpv or intake will be covered under warranty if they brake anyways says mazda N/A so they cant say anything if u have replaced them with upgraded parts. I read somewhere that basically you are allowed to modify anything before the throttle body or after the cats under warranty with the exception of adding nitrous.
