We have one each in our MS3 and CX-9, and are ecstaticly happy with the gadget. It shows boost pressure, intake air temp, water temp, ignition advance, just about anything that the ECU provides. It also works as a kick-ass trip computer, with separate memory for current trip, current day, yesterday, and cumulative for both speed, miles, and gas mileage.

Amazon.com has them for around $150.
 
I checked the website, had a hard time finding the words "Boost Pressure"
as an advertised reading. Do you know if its an advertised reading? I see manifold pressure. Is that the same thing (yeah, I'm an idiot if it is)?
 
Manifold pressure = boost pressure. It's measuring the same thing at the same place; it is just reporting in absolute psi rather than in additional psi over atmospheric.

In other words, it adds the 14.7 psi, so 14.7 psi of manifold pressure = 0 psi boost. The max manifold pressure reading on a stock MS3 will be around 31 psi, which equates to about 16 psi of boost. The min manifold pressure appears to be around 3.0 psi. Traditional boost gauges would show this range as -11 to +16.

The gauge has an offset function so you can make it read like a traditional boost gauge.
 
That is a neat feature; the scangauge II will only report in absolute psi.

DashHawk can also displays relative boost as well as absolute manifold pressure.

how accurate are the 60ft/ 1/4 miles times compared to real numbers?

Also, does the DashHawk turn on when you turn on the car, or do you have to turn it on yourself? I'm sooo lazy... My R7 senses the engine turning on and therefore turns itself on, it also turns itself off. (I hard-wired it into my map light. I was too lazy to How-to photo it, though.)

Sorry for changing the thread. I'm in agreement with not adding wires from the engine bay. Did that with my honda, not fun. $300 is cheap considering the time spent running wires and buying gauge pods and gauges, etc. And splitting stock wireharness and hoses can be bad if you ain't a mechanic.

Here is how I have mine mounted as well as a video of the startup. And yes it turns on/off with the car without any button presses. In the video, I do have to press the button to get out of the warning screen though. You only have to do this a few times at first. I just flashed mine with new firmware today so it reset everything. Normally it just goes right to the last screen displayed when it was last turned off.

You can display anywhere from 2 pid's to 7 on the screen at one time. But you can customize 11 or 12 different displays and cycle through them with a single button push. You can also change the display color to 16 million different colors (RGB combinations)

My favorite feature is the data logging. I'm not sure if the others gauges do this or not. If not that would be a deal breaker for me. It also has a valet mode where it can record different sensors for maximum values like RPMs or MPH so you can tell if someones been joyriding. I'm going to test this feature out at the dealer when I take my car in for some minor services. ;)

The only thing that I thought was a cool feature on the ScanGuage that isn't on the DashHawk is the trip logger. I think it would be cool to record various parameters over a long road trip. The logging on the DashHawk can only record I believe is about 20-30 mins with the new firmware update. But I could be mistaken.

Another nice thing about it is that is extremely easy to unplug and take in your house and download the data to a PC. No need for a laptop in your car to download the data. And the PC software is top notch. Very easy to use interface and you can edit all your settings from your PC then upload them to the device. Or if you change them on the device, you can download them to the PC in case you mess things up and you want to revert back to a known good profile.

So you can tell that I'm slightly biased towards the DashHawk ;) but I'm sure the other devices are great too. I just haven't tried them.

It depends on how many parameters are displayed. I normally display 3 at a time like what in the second pic and I have no problem reading them at a glance. I always keep Boost as the parameter on the left so its the most visible. It also has configurable alerts. You can set 3 alerts for 5 different parameters and have the display flash a different color for each one. So you can set an alert for your coolant temp so that if it goes over a certain amount it will flash the value and the color even if its not one of the parameters currently being displayed. And since one of the parameters is RPM, you can set it to flash at a specific value effectively turning it into a shift light :) And the splash screen is also customizable. I just made that mazdaspeed one today.


And no you can't alter the ECU with this. All it does is read the sensor values.

Heres a log I did recently cuz I was interested in exactly what the ECU was doing to the boost and throttle plate at WOT. Here is a screenshot of what happened in 2nd gear. At 6400 RPM's the boost was at 5.9 psi and the throttle position was at 23% :( Nevermind that at the top of the chart it says Fuel Economy instead of boost. I'm trying out a beta version of the firmware and they haven't updated the PC software to match the pid names. Heres another log of a WOT run from 0-80mph.

Dashhawk has some more customization in terms of how many parameters to display at once (scangauge always displays 4 parameters in gauge mode), and the dashhawk looks like it includes some neat performance logging features (0-60, etc). Dashhawk can connect to a PC to upload stored information; scangauge can't. The Scangauge has trip computer functions that Dashhawk does not include (Maximum Speed, Average Speed, Maximum Coolant Temperature, Maximum RPM, Driving Time, Driving Distance, Fuel Used, Trip Fuel Economy, Distance to Empty, Time to Empty, Fuel to Empty)

If you're looking to add a full featured trip computer, the scangauge may be a better fit. If you're looking to log performance data and export that data to a PC, the Dashhawk may be a better fit. Keep in mind that the Scangauge costs $160, and the Dashhawk costs $300 (both prices taken right off amazon.com).

Jay- Killer Dashhawk Advertisment (I know u didn't mean it.). Kudos to your dedication to making your post interesting to read.

Now that we all know what it can do. Can someone post an example of what bad readings would be?

For example:
How hot is too hot for intake and engine temps?
What readings should I look for if boost is too low or too high?
Jay- What are your presets for your light indicators?
What are the critical things to look for if I were to display 5 readings at a time?
What is the priority of things worth looking at?
What reading would tell me that my exhaust would be black if its too high, and not black at all if too low.

My MS3 hasn't received any flashes or Recall fixes, since I'm Germany. Not sure what a German-spec flash would do to a US-spec car. Curious to know what the "standard" US-Spec readings should be if I flashed it by a German dealership. Not sure if any of this makes sense, but it did at the time I started rambling.

I bet you guys all hate noobs.

Maybe I missed the answer to my question in one of your posts, but I didn't see it so I am gonna ask now. How did you mount your dashhawk? How do you have it connected to the car to receive the info it displays?
 
The dashhawk plugs directly into the CAN port that is under the dash just above the lil cubby holder to the left of the sterring wheel.

The DashHawk also measures the a/f ratio with a lil math on our part:

The DashHawk doesn't quite give you the A/F (yet...it's in the works); you have to do a little simple math, namely multiply the Commanded Equivalency Ratio that it reads by 14.64 to find out your A/F.

A/F stoichiometric (14.64) * Cmd EQ R = A/F

You can get the DashHawk for around 260.00 online shipped.
