idle issues

Imagine that eh? well anyway, i bought the car 2 and half years ago and ever since i've had hassles with idle probs. In the last few months on a cold start, the car won't idle in the 1500-2000rpm range anymore. On a cold day i will need to hold the gas in a lil bit so it wont stall out, but on a warmer day it dont need to touch the gas and it will idle around 800rpm. Once the car warms up to normal temp, there is no idling issues. It used to throw a cel, something about idle solenoid intermittent. I cleared the code a few times, altho i havent thrown a cel in a few weeks now, the same problem persist. I have taken the IAC off several times in the past and put some seafoam thru there. That fixed the problem but only temporarly(lasts maybe a week or so). I did somewhat of a test on the IAC today, while car was idling I disconnected the black plug goin to the IAC and nothing happened. I remember in the past when i did this the car would stall, but not this time. Does this mean its stuck or not working anymore? remember idle is fine at normal temps. Anybody got any ideas? Not trying to buy unessecary parts here. Oil and spark plugs are regularly changed. All vac lines and egr where replaced earlier this year. Any help is appreciated

Did you check the egr. I have read that those need cleaning every one in a while, and that if it gets diry it causes idle issues. Someone has a "how to" on cleaning it posted around here. My car also has some kind of issues on cold starts. Its not realy the idle, but when i tap the gas it sounds like a backfire/misfire and kind of boggs down the engine. If i warm it up for about 1-2 min it goes away and is smooth again.

if you read his last line, he mentions he just had it replaced. He could still check it, but it should have been replaced with the revised part.

Sounds like the IAC to me. You should also be able to see the motor move if you spray some carb clean in the intake. The IAC will compensate for the rich mixture and open to allow more air. It seems like you've already done a fine job of diagnosing, now you just need to replace the part.

Well i borrowed my moms IAC valve from her P5 and my car's idle was normal again. So i obviously need to order a new IAC for sure now. Has anyone used or know of anyone who used an aftermarket IAC valve? Mazda wants $380 and i've found this http://www.autopartsworld.com/Part....-es-lx-mp3&PartNameEncoded=idle-control-valve to be the cheapest so far, just wondering if its worth the time and money to go aftermarket or just pay up and get a genuine mazda part

Contact Metallic36 who is parting out her MP3, or anyone else parting out and ask them how it worked for them. I'm sure you'll get it for a LOT cheaper then what the stearlership wants for it

I am not sure if I have an idle problem but its at about 500-700 when i start it up, and when i rev it. it like "pops" dose not sound like a miss fire or anything just like its getting gaps of air. not sure cause its cold out and its from intake or what... but anyone hear of this?

Does it pop when you first hit the throttle, during rpm increase or when you lift? I had this before and it turned out to be the intake. One day I was turning the wheel and could here a muffled clunk/pop. It turned out to be the intake making the noise due to a sudden increase of vacuum because of the power steering causing a load on the engine.

Its when I am increasing my RPM, I think it will start around...... 2 1/2. its only cold days too. so i just think its my intake. but dono.

Gots the same problem...

popping sounds, boggs down, and it even stalls out... gotta keep the RPM high around 3k. If not no matter how much i push the peddle she will eventually bogg out and stall. Sometimes i just try to take off and if feels like im climbing a steep hill but im actually on a near flat surface. Car is super sluggish but then it just takes off like im boosting or running some VTECH. But after 3 to 5 minutes of driving she runs fine. Oh and this is on a P5

Subbin for the solution...
