First off, what you are about to see may be hard to believe (or stomach) and to be honest, after responding to the craigslist post, I didn't really expect to find this when going to check out the car. For whatever reason, when I showed up, I felt a calling or maybe obligation is a better choice of words, to do something about the poor P5 that lay in front of me. But before we get too far, a little background on me:
My name is Chris and I've been a member here for a while now, but not so active. I joined way back in '05 when I first purchased my MSP. It was a sweet car, that I really miss (sad1), but sadly the ride was short lived, I sold it to my dad after only a few months and bought a Nissan 350Z. I'm a Nissan guy at heart, but something about the Protege just tugs at me, so I went P5 shopping to serve as my new DD.
MSP:
The plan here is to restore this broken example of a P5 and create practical Daily Driver that won't break the bank. There is a lot of work to be done here and I'll do my best to keep you guys updated on all of the progress. I have several "Interesting" plans in the making, but of course it's all up in the air at this point.
2002 Mazda Protege5
I answered a craigslist add for a $500 P5; who wouldn't? There was a pretty sketch pic in the listing and I could tell it would need a little work, but thats no different than anything else I own. Come to find out, the car is Pink, has some custom body work (lol) and the chassis has 120k. The title is clean, and the car is a good project base. The car was mad slammed on Skunk2 Coils, well technically only the rear, while the front was resting on concrete blocks. The FS is shot, the previous owner had a CAI, sucked up some water and bent the #4 rod. The interior is interesting, a little custom upholstery and some paint. The outside will need the most work, I'm not a fan of the Pink or the shaved roof or even the painted window moldings :eek.
Onto the pics...I warned you, lol.

Looks like a yellow P5 with no motor, not so bad right? Ha.
And after all of that, I lifted the Skunk2's to max and still decided to bring it home
