Oh wow, look who's talking. Watch out, it's tough guy!
It's a lot rougher on the economy. PR has been going through a lot of changes in the last 5 years. The 90s until ~01, PR was at it's peak. But now it's been a downhill. Eighty percent of the income goes into paying the public employee. And if they were efficient, ok, it's fine. BUT NO, process takes ages. Too much bureaucracy.
Government structure sucks, but when i say sucks it sucks BAD. Everything is political. The "medium" class, wich is the backbone, suffers the most. I'll put myself into example. My wife didn't work for a year (pregnancy + complications), she's a teacher. She applied for unemployment and food benefits. Our fridge was always full!! Easy cash on the side, maybe not as much as a full time job. But hey, if your fridge is full, what else can you ask for?
And then there's the cheating. People work on the side and still collect, and report taxes at their convenience.
And what may affected us the most is the corruption probably political the most.
If the money was managed correctly, PR would be in a lot better position.
Criminality spins around the world of Drugs, at PR. If you mess with something Drug related, you're dead, sooner or later. I guess it's the same for most places. And rule of thumb is not being at the wrong place with the wrong people.
I think the Dominican Republic perhaps Cuba are close to a *boom* in every aspect. More the Dominican Republic. The latter will take longer, BUT IT'S CLOSE I SAY!
Ok I'm rambling too much now.
/rant.
i used to hang out in those areasWow - read all the way through this thread. Shame sh!t is sucking so bad in PR. I lived there in the 80s and then in the 90s. My son is still there (he's 25). I will NEVER forget PR! After living there for 10 years - it's in my blood. The culture is powerful and alive, and very distincy from other latin cultures. I'm in effin Oklahoma, and there is NO MOFONGO. No Arroz con gandules. No palm trees. No beach. No puertorriqueas. My lord, boricua mamis are incredibly hot.
Lived in Gurabo, Humacao, San Juan, Bayamn. Traveled all over the island. I left in 94 - guess right at the end of the "golden years".
Dios bendiga a la isla encantada. No hay igual.
I am craving the chuletas ahumada at Metropol in SJ!
