I love my MS3

Therefore, I don't want someone else to take it, lol. I live in Vegas and auto theft is a huge issue here. I have used the search button, but the only post relative to this is almost 2 years old. What do you guys suggest? I was looking into LoJack, but also would like some sort of immobilizer. I don't know much about this, so what works out there?

I'm asking for LoJack for Christmas. It's the cadillac of auto theft devices, and it's something like a 98% recovery rate.
Plus, chances are higher they'll catch the people that did it, which I love.

That was another reason why I got the GT. It comes with the immobilizer and until I get the lojack, I'm hoping that's good enough.

What security features does the GT have that the sport doesnt?

My friends sport honks the horn if you open the doors so I figured he had the same security stuff as my GT.

Theft-deterrent security system is standard on the GT, but not the Sport. Since I don't own a GT, I can't say exactly what that means, but I am sure the manual would explain it. I just don't have my handy right now.

Hmm I know both of our horns will set off if you open the doors but maybe its something extra.

Does your key have a chip in it so it wont start with out a factory key?

Yes, you need a factory key to start the car with a chip matched. To get a new key your looking at about 100+ bucks just to get it programmed. The car won't start with out that chip, so the only way they're stealing it is by tow truck or by stealing your key ala camrycev6.

Yeah and with LoJack I think my GT will be in lock-down mode for any would-be thief. An alarm will go off if they open the door, the engine won't start without the key, and the GPS will track where the car has gone to, if they even get that far.

I wish there was a sticker I could put on the windows that tells people it has an immobilizer so they won't even bother and mess up the car trying.

Yeah...but I have a sport...I know my key has a chip in it as well. (Even the base model Mazda 3 has that feature.) I still don't know what the TDSS does... Anyone?

I had it flipped around. The Immobilizer is in both, the TDS is in GT standard.
In the manual, here's what it says:

The immobilizer system allows the engine
to start only with a key the system
recognizes.
If someone attempts to start the engine
with an unrecognized key, the engine will
not start, thereby helping to prevent the
theft of your vehicle.

Theft-Deterrent System*
The theft-deterrent system is designed to
prevent your vehicle or its contents from
being stolen when all doors, hood, and
trunk lid/liftgate are locked.
If forcible entry is attempted, the system
sounds the horn and flashes the hazard
warning lights.
*Some models.

Yeah...according to the Mazda website, the TDSS is NOT available in the Sport version.

Whitey...it would seem that your buddy's Sport is acting like a GT. Strange....

LoJack is about $700 for the base version. It's about $900 for the one that has the early detection warning. You get a phone call as soon as someone breaks into the car.
With the base version you won't know your car's gone until you have to go somewhere.

I got the Lojack Early Warning System for $645 installed yesterday. It includes an additional fob that sits on your keyring. The second you seperate the fob from the car, its goes into early warning mode. If someone moves the car WITHOUT the valid fob, it begins to page, email and txt msg you... Its a good investment and i got $300 off my insurance for it. Im still looking into an alarm system with glass breakage sensors and the ability to keep my engine running 30 seconds after i shut it off.

Why would you keep th engine running if you have a stick?

I assume you have a stick because the only reason to do this is to cool a turbo and that means you have a MS3 but keeping a car running with just an E-brake on seems like a bad idea.

I know in my car if I leave it in gear and no E-brake it sill still sort of roll back little by little and the same goes with just using an E-brake it wont hold the car on a kill. A combo of both works fine but you cant leave it in gear and leave it running.

Then on the other hand there is no need to keep it running unless you drive the piss out of it then shut it down right after. Just dont run it hard right before you are going to park it.

how much is the monthly fee?

There's no monthly fee. And if you get a LoJack installer to put it in, they can come to you. If you go to your dealer they can schedule it for you.

Haltech - how did you get the early warning one for 645? And my insurance only shows a $30 difference in my 6 month rate. Is that how your $300 savings is spread out?

I had called AAA before i bought the car to do some rates. I asked them what would get me the best discount on insurance and the Lojack was mentioned to me. So since i went with the early warning system and the MS3/M3s have a theft problem, they hooked me up with the $300 off my insurance. It was a one time deal on my insurance, not a yearly thing.

The dealer only charged me $645 for it and there is no monthly fee. I do believe if you need your vehicle recovered and it does get found, there is some sort of recovery fee, which the insurance co takes care of.
