I just got some killer deals...

True, but if you call them they are very friendly and knowledgeable. Try calling these other companies. All I received were automated messages and could never reach an actual person.

I'll spill the beans on this one since my deal with the company no longer exists.

Check out this site. www.wheelenvizio.com

People have had good luck with www.edgeracing.com on this board. I haven't dealt with them personally so I am only speaking from recommendations by other board members. I would only order from www.wheelmax.com if I plan to get Exel rims and don't plan on buying tires from them (apparently they can't balance worth s***).

The $329/wheel deal for the SSR SP1s is tempting again...especially now that I know they will fit on a speed6 (I confirmed with the Denver seller and he bitched about the clutch...yup, it was a speed6).

However, I think tonight I will line up the wheel again and see exactly how much has to be grinded to get my rotas to fit. After I paint the calipers you won't be able to tell the difference anyway. If I go to our meet tomorrow I'll bring the wheels so you guys can help me make a decision on the grinding.

I have the grinder. Might need another wheel though. The one I have now is new but we don't want to wear it so low the it breaks apart. (wink wink)

I also have brush on paint. Mark has my silver stuff.

This might sound like a stupid thing to tell you but......... i know you like the wheels a lot, but one thing to think about it........... is it SAFE to grind down your caliper? Aren't you pretty much weakening the integrity of the caliper itself? maybe i'm wrong... I don't know, but it just doesn't seem like something I would do..... could you maybe by some after market calipers that will fit better under the wheels?

anyway, good luck with that man, I hope all goes well.

and altspace, thanks for that info, perhaps I'll call tirerack (since they have a wheel I'm interested in) and see if that wheel comes in 19x7 or 19x7.5 etc....

Thanks

Josh, if you pick up another wheel, I'll reimburse you for it.

Koenig, If I were taking my car to the race track I might be worried but I only plan to shave off a small section. If it looks to be a big project I will pass on the grinding. I am not about to do something that will jeapordize the safety of my car.

good to know bro (2thumbs)

yeah but how SAFE is it, is what I was asking........ can you grind down the caliper and it's still considered safe? that's what matters most....... (you can paint a caliper black and people won't notice it's grinded, but for me it's safety first)

hey altspace, I will say one thing........ although you've made me aware not to buy from them....... I am however using wheelenvizio's program to see EXACTLY how some rims will look on my car........at least their software is pretty good, since they have a #d speed6.......thanks man.

oh I misunderstood than, I thought you were saying they weren't good...... the edgeracing has some enkei wheels I like........

and the wheelenvisio was awesome to see a 3D graphic depiction of my car with rims on it

the only thing about ederacing that bothers me.....is when I try to bundle the wheels I'm looking at (the little link under it says "bundles from $919" ) basically their cheapest bundle should be 919....but the cheapest they show me (and 5 tire options) is almost $1200....... on top of that the tire option they offer is 225/45/18 instead of 225/40/18 :(

Well, after some work with the grinder, I got them on. I took off a little more than expected but I don't think I have harmed the integrity of the caliper. It's about a 1/4" thick going back about 1" as you can kind of see from the photo. I'll have better pics later, the one below really doesn't do them justice. My Megan springs are in the mail and I should have them on in a few weeks.

The 225/40R18 tires are really too small. Tire calculators say they are only off by 1% but it is much more, at least for this brand. I drove by a radar trailer on my way home. With the speedo at exactly 40 the trailer said I was going 37-38. I confirmed the discrepency on the highway when everyone seemed to be going 77-82 (usually they are going 70-75). That is about 5-8% different. I don't get it.

Oh well...It will hopefully keep me from speeding and I can't complain after only spending $300 on the tires. Next time it will be 225/45R18 or 235/40R18.

Chris, let's take a trek in your car with my GPS.. i will be able to tell you the exact speed. Consider that even your stock wheels probably had a too-optimistic speedo reading (e.g. the case with my stockers: my speedo 80mph on stock wheels and tires reads 78-79mph on GPs).

I knew we could do it. Sorry, did not get final pics. I was busy with the rear tires.

I thought about the GPS. Next time we meet we'll take a spin. I just need to know what 65 and 75 look like on the speedo. That will keep me out of the trouble zone.
