I ive got ticket 94 in 55 in january last year...i didnt plead guilty because theyre were 2 cars in front of me and one on side of my that were going as fast as i was but he pulled over only me ....and i just received mail that i have to go to court ....should i take a lawyer or what?? is it still valid after 1 year wait??

Speaking from experience of 2 years of pre-law before dropping out is get a lawyer and try to plea it down best you can. Have you gotten any other tickets in the past year? What state is it?

its Ny state ... I had one ticket but i dont have any points on my license all i know that cop said if I plea guilty i will lose my license

You're lucky he didn't take you to jail at the time -- pretty sure that in most states, that much over the speed limit he could have taken you off to jail and impounded your car.

Get a lawyer and hope for the best.

lawyer up, always the best thing to do...our court system has sooo many loopholes and stuff. Get the lawyer to do a quick plea bargin to basic speeding or something like that. I've done the court thing 3 times now (going it alone, no lawyer) and every time I go back it gets worse/harder. Just get a lawyer and save yourself the hassle/stress of dealing with the DA/judge yourself.

I got cought doing 100 in a 45. Hired a lawyer.

End result: $400.00 - Lawyer
$400.00 - Ticket
+2 pts on license.

Your from long island ehh, i got a speeding ticket and was thinking of hiring a lawyer but was told by many lawyers that in suffolk don't know if its the same in nassua they passed a law that makes it so you cant plead down. If you fight it you have to either get it dismissed or lose.

Good mindset.

if i lose im gona lose my license.....

Just man up an' pay it. Between the lawyer and the fine + penalty, it'll cost you more. How could you have a ticket and no points? Also, how could you "plead" anything, you haven't been to court yet.

when i got my ticket a few years ago, it got reduced to a seat belt violation. still was convicted of an infraction, but didnt get points as a result.

also, in regard to your other question, when you get the ticket, you need to mail it back in telling whether you plead guilty or not. if you plead guilty when mailing it back, you avoid court but have to pay whatever the fine and points penalties are for that given infraction.

as for that new law not allowing the infraction to be reduced in suffolk, that sucks. gonna have to watch my back whenever i make trips down there from now on...

Sure the ticket's still good...and I would echo the advice of others. 95 in a 55 is no fooling around- they can and probably will yank your license, or make you pay through the nose, or both. A lawyer is not cheap, but it could be the difference between riding the bus to work and driving your car.

This is absurd.

If you're up to the task, you don't need to hire an F'in lawyer!

Do some research online... there's TONS of good info on how to work yourself out of this mess.

For starters... what type of gun did he use? Hopefully for your sake it was radar. Radar's accuracy is s*** compared to radar. Since you were obviously amongst other cars... the cop could have (theoretically) gotten a reading off another car but then pulled you over instead. Even though that obviously wasn't the case... in a court of law, it can and often does hold up. (If you're convincing enough!)

So if you've got the moxy... do it yourself. You don't need to have passed the F'in bar to get out of a BS (or not) speeding ticket. Just do your homework and be convincing. Look and act the part... that's half the battle. I'm in court all the time and I see these thugs going in talking like thugs do... "you man I was just mindin' my own business you know what I'm sayin, when this cop pulls me over for no reason your honor." and they wonder why they NEVER win. Rather than debate whether it's fair or not... just play the game and you should be fine.

Remember... the goal is to not get any points on your license. State how important it is for you to keep your insurance costs down for the long term (in the process of buying a house, need to pay off student loans, saving for an engagement ring... they eat that s*** up) and stand firm (until the bitter end) on your conviction that you were NOT speeding. (after all... why else would you plead not guilty? lol) If you lose that battle... agree to pay the fine but DO NOT agree to any points... not under any circumstances. That'll haunt you for years.

well... yeah. I mean, if the OP was indeed going this fast then he technically deserves to lose his license. (here in CT anyway, that would be automatic) But... as a member of the Mazda fraternity I felt it was my duty to at least point out some possible ways to slip through the cracks and avoid any serious penalties.

Hopefully he's learned his lesson though. Even if he were to get off scott free, the ordeal that is going to court should be enough to deter anyone with half a brain.

well was it a state trooper? because i live in NY and know that they did pass that law saying you cant plea down tickets with troopers...

if you get out of this with your license still... INVEST IN A VALENTINE ONE!!...mine has saved me many many times..incuding a few times while racing, and i slowed down and they got pulled over lol

but still.. good luck with this! i can relate somewhat.. my sister got a 111 in a 65 like 2 years ago
and im 20 and ive gotten 4 speeding tickets :( 2 since i got my speed3 in july lol

he was a state tropper and he told me to not plea guilty... hopefully he will not show up in the court...be the way i didnt even drive mazda a that itme it wa in my dads dodge intrepid....to be honest i was talking to my girl and i was following the traffic ....i didnt even realize we were going that fast i was just behind other cars ...and than i just saw the lights behind me....this was even intetionally.

Man in MA you have to either be driving to endanger, or doubling the speed limit i think to get a ticket. People do 94 here all the time and dont get their license taken away.

My friend had a lawyer tell him this speach.

"I was indeed traveling on said road on said day. At the time I was pulled over I was surround in traffic by other cars all around me. While I am sure the officer did clock someone going 94 mph, I can assure you it wasn't me as I know for a fact I was traveling at Xmph" - or something to that effect

The trick is to not call the cop a liar. It might also help if you fess up to speeding a little, say 65 or 70mph. Admit something, but not everying. If you do always apologise. Another thing is make sure you are crystal clear on the details when you go in to fight it. If you sound like you clearly remember it your story is more believable. If you sound like you are unsure, or making crap up your screwed.

Or, you could always try honesty too. Tell them you take responsibility for it, and you ask them not to revoke your license as you depend on it.

I have had that last option work several times for me
