I have improved my mileage by adding ACETONE

Acetone seems sexy.. I will put some tomorrow in my tank which I just filled for 57$.. (boom08)

Don't use acetone. This is BS. The argument is that is breaks the surface tension of the fuel, allowing it to atomize better; BS. A clean fuel injector does a damn good job of atomizing fuel.

You want better fuel economy, do a tune up on your car; plugs, wires, injector cleaner. I get better mileage than most people posting on here because I MAINTAIN my car.

On a side note, I work with acetone everyday, and it's not something I would want cracking up my injectors, or fuel pump. When I see you driving around with a line of missing paint below your gas cap, I'll know you didn't listen.

Use your head.

Amount of Acetone

no idea on the amount, i havent ever used acetone. im about to put some techron fuel system cleaner in my car either tonight or tomorrow because my gas mileage is horrible. like 16mpg or worse. im only getting a little over 200 miles to a tank and i used to get 400.

Here is what i am doing I am trying in my 2003 mazda protege5 at 4oz for 5 tanks and I am writing this all down. How much i fill up (gallons) how many miles i went etc. Then run one tank of gas with out Acetone. Then i will do 5 more tanks at 3oz, 2oz,1oz then none. All the while i am keeping very good records of my mileage and gallons used etc. I skip one tank of acetone due to the fact i don't think anyone runs there gas tank bone dry and you can have a build up of Acetone. My friend who has a ford escort went from 25-28 miles freeway to 35 mpg he says he runs 3 tanks of acetone then goes and gets a quarter tank of gas and runs it down then fills up and adds acetone his car uses 3oz he swears by it. I will keep you posted as to what results I get.

Wow

I use Acetone in my 2003 mazda protege5 I also use a transmission filler and a shot glass to measure it out so i don't get it on my paint. I am going to post results to see if it really works and i keep my car fully maintained like you!!

While your at it, why don't you fill your tires with concrete, so they don't flex. Less flex = less rolling resistance. Oh, and pour a gallon or so of water in the gas tank. All the fuel in there doesn't get burned, and the water is heavier, so it will displace the unburned fuel giving you 100% of your fuel usage. Also you should remove your hood so air can flow though better increasing the thermal efficeincy of your engine. Also, you should be sure to slam into the back of other cars instead of wasting your brakes, as brake pad friction material is going up in price, and will soon be worth more than you. On second thought, cars aren't worth driving, burn yours for heat, it might get cold this winter (I'd save it until then).

P.S. you are an idiot.

I would not use acetone until i knew what effect it would have on the engine seals. You would need to get sample seals for the injectors, intake, etc and soak them in acetone and look for swelling or deterioration.

I too will stick with tune up and smart driving habits.

would soaking them in 100% Acetone give the same end result as soaking them in a solution with the same concentration as 4oz/10gal of gasoline?

Either way, why would it matter? You shouldn't be doing it. I've only read about adding acetone with positive effects from the casual user (like the ones featured here). And the casual user's results are not very reliable since it's impossible to produce consistent results tank to tank. Every other respectible place says not to do it at all.

I'll stick to not doing it at all.

The only positive result you will see would be the same as using an injector cleaner.

Prolonged use of this highly CORROSIVE substance will damage your injectors, fuel pump, and fuel pressure regulator. As well as any gaskets that may come into contact with unburned fuel.

Believe me, there is no miracle solution for our engines to achieve better gas mileage without changing driving habits. The only thing that may get better gas mileage is a standalone ecu such as megasquirt turned for economy; These cars run pretty rich, a standalone could lean them out a bit.

I'm a process engineer, I know a thing or two about this sort of thing.

On my Haltech I tuned out the closed loop so that instead of running at 14.7:1 it's aiming for 15.5:1. That helped me save a bunch on gas.

this made my day..thanks (rofl2) you guys are funny

Hello to you all who is trying the acetone. I have done several tests with and without acetone. I have kept a log book with my mileage amout of fuel to fill up and amount of acetone used. i have done 3 tanks with 4oz and 1 without (that way there is no build up of acetone in tank) and 3 tanks with 3oz I just recently added up my mileage and gallons used etc. my average mpg is 38 that is city and freeway driving i will now use 2oz and then 1oz and then none. each time 3 tankuls to see any differnce. How far do you go on a half a tank I am at 150 miles mine is a mazda 2003p5

Better mileage...

I also was wondering replacing the chip with a a better one to increrase a little power and fuel mileage. I feel the car has a little harder time going up the hills.

Long term tests

I wasn't totally empty so I put 10 gal in the tank and added 3 oz.

I have done it with some good results I have done 3 tanks with 4oz 1 with out to prevent build up and 3 tanks with 3oz and 1 with out I am now going to do 2oz and then 1 and then try it with 5oz I keep very good logg book with all my results and i just recently added up all the numbers i am averaging between city and freeway 38 mpg then i plan to do a complete tune up spark plugs filters etc. Anbody have ideas on what brand of spark plugs work good in the p5 I have noticed that i have gotten 150 on a half a tank this time is that good bad ugly I have had the car 1 month so i don't know when it was tuned up last.

Just add more acetone, it'll work eventually
