I Hate Studs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never have I worked on anything when I haven't broken a Stud off.... Isn't there any better technology than these steel pieces of SH@T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

I was puttingon the new downpipe and while taking off the top right nutt- the whole thing just tore off. It's cut pretty flush, but the other half is stuck in there..... Now many of you may think: "Well at least tighten the other two"... But I can't. Even after I cut the bottom stud a bit so that I can almost get a nutt on the end of it-I still can't. I'm thinking that tomorrow I'll have to somehow fish out that other half on the top one and replace the stud, where I'll get the stud I don't know.

I did, however, raise the boost. It should be at 7.5 psi, but I won't know for sure until I tune it.

I hate complaining, but right now my hands are torn to crap and my care is in pieces and will be till tomorrow morning. :'(

Damn dude, that sux! As many times as I have had to dissconnect the downpipe, I'm glad this hasn't happened to me yet!

DOH! Note to FM: Make sure in your kits you put in extra strengh studs! :)

Same thing happened to me. I try to get it out with a easy-out but broke that too, so I had to drill it out and retap it (what a pain in the ass).

Yup.... You must be nostradaumus. I, too, bought the easy out, and of course it broke as well. :o :'(

I'm so sick of dealing with this downpipe configuration. Honestly, there has to be a better way of connecting the two. The bottom nutt has no room to even fit the nutt on. Fortunately, I was able to cut it some and got that nutt on barely so at least I have two on there.

My problem now is that the two flanges (downpipe and exhaust) don't fit together properly, and there's a killer exhaust leak. I'll be taking it to ProDyno tomorrow to get that taken care of. They'll probably cut off the exhaust flange and fit a better one.

I turned up the boost as well. It looks like it's right over 8psi like 8.2... I'll lower it 1/2 psi tomorrow.

The only good thing is that she feels VERY quick now.

I guess I won't get the other downpipe after all. Its not worth that crap.

that's werd that it didn't fit, right after i fixed the stud problem everything went together very nice.

It's the flange at the end of the downpipe and the modified flange I had on there with my custom exhaust... I have a feeling that's why it's messed. I'll get that part of it taken care of.

But CT if you don't mind me asking. How did you get that stud out?

The thing that keeps happening to me is my bottom of the 3 studs, the nut keeps falling off! Yesterday I went and go a jamming ring to put under the nut. The exhaust leak is sealed once again, and the CEL went off.

I just use a lot of locktight on everything and I never had any loosening problems.
SMP, MP3CT already mentioned he had to drill out and retap for the stud.

Having the right material and grade stud for the application will go along way in preventing failures like that.

Find a bolt supply and get the GOOD STUFF. Something that is resistant to the corrosive environment its exposed to also. I am sure most "turbo kits" probably use cheap stuff. Manufacturers get away with the bear minimums. Sounds like its time to upgrade.

I think the studs that FM supplied were better than the BEGI ones. The BEGI studs looked weak compared to the replacement studs that FM sent. FM's were shiney and new too!

Like I said...I hope FM is listening here. The extra $5 in better studs will save a lot of hassle. Some locktite included in the kit would be nice too. And definitely those fancy "T" clamps that Big_ben was talking about...

I just installed 2 T-bolt clamps on my IC pipe comming from the turbo, Those damn things keep REAL constant force 360 degrees! I boosted for 2 days, and it they did not move at all! You will need a tall 11mm socket to get them installed!

We don't have problems with broken studs on our kits. We use good quality fasteners. I don't know exactly what Corky shipped so I can't comment. Our philosophy is that we'd rather have a more expensive kit with quality fasteners than save a couple of bucks.

Loctite will not hold on a turbo nut. Think about it - how do you remove loctite? Heat. Hmmm. That's why we use Stover nuts with mechanical locking.

There's no need to go overboard on clamps. For 6 psi, t-clamps are complete and utter overkill. We don't use them on any of our cars, and we've seen 24+ psi on the race car in a spike. Make sure there's no oil on the inside of your silicone connectors when you hook them up and use decent silicone.

Yeah, every time I have had to take off my clamps, I clean them with rubbing alcohol until they squeek, and the hose too. The problem seem to be solved, that's all I care about....not having to pull over, wait an hour, and then re-tighten my clamps.

Well guess what,

One of my studs broke off yesterday! Not only that, but when I pulled over during the CTC motorsport thing, the whole downpipe was hanging off the remaining 2 studs! :wtf:
