So I know I had the lowering question thread and you guys gave me good ideas...

But seeing how my parents bought me my car and Im only 18...

They said I cant lower it! Is there any way i convince them that nothing will go wrong? ( even though messing with the suspension could potentially mess something up)

jut tell them all will be fine
show them our posts and offer to pay to fix any problems. other than that just do it anyway you only live once

I was thinking about that. Just buy the springs and have someone put them on and i guarentee they wouldnt even notice!

So is it your car or their car?

If your parents bought you a car, you have no car payment, and you still live at home, you should probably save your cash and put it towards your house downpayment. :)

well to be honest i would try to win them over but if not our suspension is not too bad stock maybe do a few other things and then try to bring it up again what does your current mod list look like?

Man, I am starting to sound like an old fuddy-duddy! LOL

I have always enjoyed modding the cars, however I have never been happy with spring changes on daily driver cars. I think you would be better served to start with some tires, then some shocks/struts. Both will give big changes in handling, but you won't be affecting the driveabilty of the car.

Yeah i know i hate having this car cause nothing ever stops! I always want to do something to it. But I get so jealous of other 3's in my city that are lowered and have rims and stuff

Start contributing and paying for it. That will give you a leg up that you are being responsible for the car. If you want to modify it, you'll more than likely do it properly since it's your money paying for it as well.

Convince them that an eibach pro kit will not affect anything but the ride height of the car. Even the stock struts will hold up for a while if you use an eibach pro kit or even a progress lowering kit which uses progressive springs and less stiff springs than eibach uses. You'd have less wheel gap and still have a good ride.

Don't piss them off though. It is their car after all.

seriously unless ur parents are in to cars, if you dont drop it insanely they probably wont even notice lol. my mom couldn't tell at all when i lowered my car, my dad only noticed cause he races lol

^^

Gotta love parents that are enthusiast!

My dad likes looking at my Miata's progress and sometimes ask me when are the new parts coming in? lol.

i am 17 my dad didnt want me to get coils cuz they cost as much as the rims did, i went with tein stechs, lower then what i expected but stiffer, i just said that nothing will have to be fixed or an alignment isn't needed, i got the springs off an ebay dealer, not a no name person, got em for 179, did all my research, did all the work myself, no need for any alignment, i went to a volkswagen mechanic, hes going onto his 17 year of being a mechanic, he said i did a good job and amazingly didnt need an alignment because of it. usually people say an alignment is needed after getting new coils or springs or whatever but if you do it right the first time your good. just if you do end up doing it, make sure you know to use a widow maker and WD40 to get the strut out, use springs clamps to get the springs off, and the wedge has to be the same as stock, youll see what the wedge is when you pull it off of the car, its on the top between the spring and the compressed strut, if you keep those the same as stock your car is good, and this is with any lowering/stiffer springs, not coils.

my mom didnt notice, my dad said he likes the newer mazda feel and look, meaning low and stiff lol

Just do it anyways haha. I don't tell my parents what I'm doing to my car. They cant say no if you are already half way threw the install lol. I did pay for my car though they just took out the loan.

Just tell them you get better gas mileage or something like that haha

Look, if you're not paying for the car, it's not yours, so you shouldn't modify/touch it without your parents permission.
Simple as that. If they say no, you shouldn't do it, or prepare to face the consequences, whatever they may be.
If you were paying for the car, ****, you can do whatever you want with it, but it's not yours.

I'd sell them on the better mpgs idea :) ! I'll be the first one with tools out when my boys get old enough to get into this addiction.

agreed, when mommy and daddy buy it theres not much really you can do.
with that being said, save you money and buy a buy another car you can build and mod all you want.

05maz3subd- I'll drive up and they can check out my car on coilovers. Your dad will be sold for sure if he likes stiff suspension setups. Mine MIGHT be up for sale in the spring but it all depends on whether my brother buys a 3 to replace his s10 or not. If he gets a 3 the suspension is going on his car as a loaner and so I have an excuse to go lower.

superdoughboy's gotta point. Im 20 and still live at home, my car is in my name and i make the payments on it every month, hence mine. However my last 2 cars were in my dads name and so whatever i did to them, had to run the idea by him since he was title holder and owner. "Dont bite the hand that feeds" haha. Besides, give it time or give them a logical reason WHY, and they might not have a prob with it or be willing to change they're mind.
