I #$%@^&* HATE 2nd gear!!!

i once tried shifting into reverse when i was going forward....i did it 2x.
oh man i almost crapped in my pants:'(
i was going about 40km/h and i tried shifting into reverse..there was this grinding noise and i thought i was shifting into 2nd so i tried again when i realized im shifting into reverse!
:wtf: :'(

i thought the tranny was gone but nothing happened...it still shifts smoothly.
:p

apart from that i havent had any problems with the tranny or shifting.

I just picked up some MTL-90 today from HP. Just in case anyone is curious, this is what Redline recomends. HP didn't know, so they called Redline themselves. That was kind of cool.

Anyway, I'll prolly put it in tomorrow.

Sam

I grind second occasionally, more so when i first got the car. Now i take the extra time going into 2nd. Its very notchy. I have MTL-90 in my car, I had my dealer put it in. It didnt do anything for me, still cruchy. Call me paranoid but i dont think they put it in. I think just to be safe im gonna grab some more and do it myself.

I hate this tranny. Radomly my car wont let me in 4th without releasing and depressing the clutch.

well from 2nd to reverse isnt bad...
i saw valves from an M3 that went from 120mph into 2nd gear. the RPM's went to 11k and the valves looked like an "L"

If you're finding reverse when you're going forward, maybe you need an indiglo shift knob with glowing diagram. :D

I have noticed that the clutch pedal in my P5 is far more to the right than I would like. The clutch in my RX-7 is probably 2 inches further to the left.

So in my P5, I'm actually hitting the clutch from an leftward angle and sometime I don't push it down all the way because of that.

In order to line my feet up on the pedals, I practically have to crush my schnutz.

I find that second does not come in smooth at all, and when I say that I mean even when the car is off. go try it right now. go sit in your car throw the clutch in and go from first to second with a little bit of speed you will notice a few times it has a notch to do or a bit of a hump (for lack of a better way of saying it) then after that few times the shift becomes clean to second I don't understand.

Since i got the ractive intake the 1st and 2nd gears have become more smoother. feels like theres more power in those gears, the car doesnt stall as easily in lower rpms.

Sometimes I grind second, but it only happens on a hard launch. It also happens more frequently with the A/C on. I honestly think it has something to do with the weak motor mounts in our cars. My guess is that when you are inbetween shifts, the engine rocks and causes the shifter rod to move. This causes the gear not to mesh. What would be interesting, is to see if any members with the AWR motor mounts or the MSP's stronger mounts are experiencing the same problem.

i have the front mount in and mine is still notchy, although the rear takes more abuse than the front i would think. But like what was said b4, it is notchy even when your not moving shifting 1st -2nd.

Thats funny...I'm the type that would be paronoid about a dealer like that too. So far I haven't had any experiences with any of the 3 dealers in my area that make me trust them.

If it makes you feel any better, I put in redline to try and get rid of my grind and it didn't do jack squat for me. It happily grinds occasionally, but much more during the winter weather.

Same problem here , occasional grinds into 2nd and its always notchy and its the only gear.

I just ordered 3 more qts today and some 15w-50. I also want to check for any metal of anything in my tranny for myself. I took the car in today to have them check it out, and do some other small stuff. This will be my last visit under warrenty, turbo goes on the 21st. Hopefully the do something,if not i will live with it.

BTW i called redline headquaters and they said use MT-90 not MTL90 for the protege 2.0L

also i took off my kartboy bushing and knob and i swear it feels smoother. who knows.

My bad! You are correct, it is MT-90. Thanks for pointing that out.

Sam

BTW Paul...Where did you pick up the blue sparko wires? I'm looking at getting some myself.

my tranny didn't use to grind into 2nd.. but after getting the clutch bunny hop fixed it has always done it and it is extremely difficult to shift into 2nd when its cold.

i went to the dealer and said I wanted to get the trans fluid changed, and they said that it wouldn't help, because changing wouldn't get rid of the metal filings, but I need a flush!?? flush = $140 trans flud change = $50.
are they BSing me?

Holy s***, man I do the same thing. so many times I have girlie screamed because things got shifted around down there, that weren't supposed to be.you are definitely right, the pedal needs to be more to the left. I have stepped on the brake pedal when I wanted to step on the clutch, and that wasn't fun.

When I got my clutch replaced, they put MerconV in mine. Mine grinded like a b**** when it was cold. Since the new clutch and the fluid replacement it's been fine.
