An I the only one that would love for Mazda to make a 3 door (or 5 door) fastback/hatchback coupe?
My hope is that Mazda is making plans in designing a true 2+2 sports car or sporty coupe that is a true fastback that is also has hatchback versatility (3 door or 5 door) ... sort of like the old mx3 was or second generation mx6? If not PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make one!!!
Personally, the Mazda 6 - 5 door hatchback feels too much like a sedan. True it make a nice sports sedan, but it still to "sedan like" for my personal tastes I just wish it had more of the 2003 Opel Insignia concept sleek sporty fastback roofline (I even love how the 2 rear doors open up like a mini-van's sliding door that's great to feature in tight parking spaces or home garages). Personally I find the fastback style more desirable than a normal coupe or sedan. I'm not sure if anyone was aware of the Holden - Torana TT 36 Concept shown last year at the 2004 Australian Auto Show. They did a nice job in designing their 5 door hatchback/fastback - in fact it looks like they took the "looks" of the Mazda 3 and turned it into their version of a 5 door hatchback/fastback ... somehow, mostly due to the fastback roofline, the Holden - Torana TT 36 Concept, appears to be much more sleeker and even sportier than the Mazda 6 (at least in my option).
I'm one of those people that do NOT find mini-vans or SUVs appealing in any form, especially as MY daily driver (although the 2005 Mazda MX-Crossport concept might be something I'd get for my wife and I wouldn't mind driving it around on the weekends as long as it is safe, affordable, efficient and reliable as past Proteg models have been)!
I really hope that sometime in the (near) future, Mazda adds a true fastback with a hatchback! It it's only a 3 door, have both the front seats move away for the passengers who need to get in back, like how the Volkswagen GTI has it's "Easy Entry System" which allows both front seats to move forward for simple access to the rear seating area (the RX-8 is easy to get into the back, but not that easy to get out).
... An if at all possible, a little larger rear trunk space ... able to hold something more than two golf bags (maybe it could have room in the back for at least four golf bags and also room for a hidden spare tire)! This sure would be more of a sporty -- stylized and useful direction Id personally love to see and own! As long as it handled great, I wouldnt mind if it weighed slightly more than the current RX-8. Im never going to be able to really drive it that fast around town (and my wife will not let me race, except at the Rev-It-up! Events).
Still overall, my complements to Mazda's team on the MX-Crossport, I love what I've seen of it's interior elements toward information/control systems! I truly hope that most of these elements do make their way into (near) future Mazda vehicles. It's the only suv/wagon that I wouldn't mind have around for our family needs. So, when and if ever the MX-Crossport comes out I'm sure that it would be a great family vehicle, that Id trade in our family car (the Passat) for it in a nanosecond!
Anyway back to my dream ... I played around in photoshop ... and came up with this ...
Anyone else want to share their dreams (in photoshop)?
