As some of you may know, I work as a graphic designer at a newspaper. Recently the paper decided to run a small magazine promoting area dealerships. Several employees have been selected to Test Drive vehices and write reviews of them. Being a car enthusiast, I jumped at the chance to be a reviewer. I should have completed all my test drives by this Saturday and I will write my impressions on this thread. I'm really stoked as this sounds like a fun assignment. Here are the cars I get to review:

07 Chevy Aveo (.......)
07 VW Passat (getting better)
07 Subaru Outback (hopefully turbo)
07 Nissan Versa (eh.. could be interesting)
07 Maza CX-7 (OH HECK YEAH!!!!!!)
07 Hyundai Sonata (Should be more fun than I think)
07 Mitsu Eclipse (Cut rate 350Z?)

So heres the list. Nothing super exciting but I'm stoked. I'll report back brief reviews to anyone that cares. Have a great day.

(sleep) hmmm those cars suck. cx is pretty quick but othere than that

Like I said, nothing really exciting. It's just a fun experience that I get paid for. Plus I would like to be an automotive journalist someday so this is sort of like a testrun for me of what it would be like. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement though.

hey man thats awesome... what paper do you work for? what city?

Oh it's a really smaller paper. It's the News and Advance in Lynchburg VA.

It's a media general company. They also Run the Richmond times dispatch and the Roanoke times.

It's a fun job. I like it.

sounds like a fun job even given the meh lineup of cars. doing things like this though, next time when they have more fun cars to drive they'll think of you (hopefully)

Thats what I'm hopin for. I was saddened that hte Local Mercedes Bens and BMW dealerships did not give cars for us to test. Oh well.

I hope the Outback is turbocharged.

I hope the Eclipse is a V6

And I'm excited about driving a CX-7

I guess they picked cars that a majority of people would be interested in.

if you're driving the $9,800 sedan one, I hope you enjoy driving a car whos main highlights include(taken straight from the chevy site lol):
-dual front and rear coaxil speakers with AM/FM radio
-14-inch steel wheels with full bolt-on wheel covers

I took the Aveo out of pity. No one else wanted to drive it. I'll bet with some suspension mods and sticky rubber it could be one heck of an autocrosser.......or not.

autocrosser.... ROFL

as a car lover, it's cool to be able to drive cars and write reviews about them. cool assignment!!

Nice gig....very jealous. Looking forward to hearing your reviews....those dual front and rear coaxial speakers have piqued my interest....lol

Excerpt from my Aveo Review: Propelled by the might of its 103 hp 4 cyl motor and thrust towards the horzion on 107 lb. feet of torque with Aveo absolutely ROCKETS from 0-60 in an astonishing 10.8 seconds. Protege5' drivers everywhere should cautious before attempting any stoplight shenanigans against this pint-size predator!

Just kidding.......

But seriously though, since these dealers are paying for ad space and trying to attract customers, we have been instructed to write only positive reviews. So there goes my journalistic integrity. I'm really just doing this cuz it's a fun assignment and extra Christmas cash.

I wish the Saturn dealer would have ponied up a Sky Redline instead of a Saturn Aura. That would have been sweet.

what kind of review is it if it has to be a positive one... Too bad.

Like I said, I'm mostly doing it because:

1. I'm a car enthusiast and I like to drive different cars no matter how exciting or mundane.

2. They are paying me overtime pay to do this.

The dealers bought Ads in the magazine and they just want us to write something nice about their product. Besides just about every car on the list is decent transportation. So it should not be too hard to find good stuff to say about them.

Yeah who can say no to coaxil front AND rear speakers

My thoughts exactly and just the thought of that lusty sounding 1.6L powerhouse of a motor gets me giddy with automotive excitement! All that power and torque at my fingertips *trembles*

well, think of it this way; it's officaly one of the few cars in the world a 1.8L ATX slush box(such as mine..) can take anytime, anywhere. (evil)

carefull now!! you might just hit 88mph in that thing and that would surely spell doom for the rest of us!!!
