I don't get it....

I am going to buy a car and I live in Chicago, so I would like all wheel for those 10 days a year when we get snow. I have driven a Subaru Legacy GT and been in a Mazdaspeed 6 but I have not driven it. I have read all the reviews and comparisons and have hung out in some forums. As far as I can tell the mazdaspeed handles better, brakes better, and is just as fast as a Legacy GT, or for that matter any car they compare it too. Why then, is it that these cars are being sold for 2-3g's UNDER invoice! I meen used MSP6's with 5,000 miles are going for $22,000. I mean they are cheaper than the Legacy GT and the GT isnt even its main competitor, the Spec B is. Whats the deal? Is there major problems with the car? Does it have mechanical problems? Did they market it wrong? Does the stick suck? As far as a I can tell, the car is sweet, so....I dont get it. Can anyone answer this? I dont want to get this car and find the dirty little secret that everyone else already knows. THX!

Pretty simple really. Mazda expected to sell a whole lot more of the MS6 than they really did, hence all the discounts. Nice car and a good deal if that's what you're looking for.

Has anybody ever seen a comercial on TV for the MS6 or even the MS3 for that matter. The only advertisement that I have ever seen is ad specific content in Internet banners on pages that are already devoted to the MS6, which kinda defetes the purpose if you ask me.

Most people have no idea what the Mazdaspeed part of the 6 or 3 is. Like Clarkson said, if someone else besides Mazda had built it, it would sell by the millions.
I think it is a Magazine dream car sadly, meaning people know about it but are scared of AWD-turbo, 6 speed (not an option), Mazda cars. I know a lot of people that love my car, but they drive RX8's or Camaros because that is what they know. Mazda should have sold it as the alterative to BMW, Audi and such (price, performance quality, 4 door miata etc).. My wife and I can afford a BMW or the Audi which are wonderful machines, but that 30k price tag just looked better on the Mazda. (naughty)
I feel when the Magazines pitted it against the Spec B pretty much exclusivley, which to be honest I see as many of those as Speed6's, that put it in a 'dream car' catagorey and helped with its low sales.
I wonder if the MS6 was more of a trial platform for the CX7 and AWD Fusions? Hmmmmm....

The one thing I like about the MS6 and MS3 their engines are not just in special productions car. The MSP engine was found in all the protege's but not turbo. It was never designed for boost that well as you may have heard. The engine that is found in this car is also found in the CX7 as well so if the engine is not reliable they have a lot more issues than back in the MSP days.

That all makes sense. So it was pretty much just a tweener car that didnt really have a market? Seems fair, all I can do is test drive it and see how it is.

Be warned...if you test drive it...you will buy it.(drive2)

I said the same thing, "I'll just take it for a drive and then go drive some other cars and compare them blah blah blah" When I got home from the dealer test driving a MS6 I started calling banks to make the deal happen. It is a very seductive car.

+1 I was looking into other cars and when I test drove this it had me at hello. I love the fact that there are not that many out there and people tend to stair. My first test drive with the sales manager he said “now have you driven a turbo car before” I said “yes but not this one”. When we hit the road it was as smooth as a baby’s ass with enough power to put the traffic in slow motion. When I got back I said I’ll take.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that fell for the car after the first test drive. I was shopping wrx's, 350 z's, mustang gt, and the new GTI. Me and my wife were looking around for almost 2 months making sure we made the right decision. We just stopped by at the Mazda dealership just to look, took the Speed 6 out once, and proceded to immedeatly buy the car. all that time shopping and comparing got thrown out the window when i drove the ms6!!

i have been looking to buy a dodge neon srt4 for the past 4 years, well just keeping my options open and ended up at a mazda stealership and fell in love with the speed6,engine has alot of potential but it was the interior that sealed the deal for me, now if i can work out a deal that fits my finances

I've been all over the place car shopping. I've looked at almost every awd car out there (I work at an Audi dealer so I test drive those all the time). I've driven the MS6, spec B, S4's, 330xi's, IS250, C230, CLK320/350, Wrx's and Sti's, Evo's, Srt4's, and S60R's. The MS6 felt faster then the spec B, rode a little less harsh, has HID headlights, plain black leather heated seats (you don't know honestly how hard it is to find a car in the $20k-$35k price range that has this), advanced key, etc. The spec B's nav is touch screen which is a little nicer, and the 07 B's have fold down rear seats (there is a mod on here to which you can make the MS6 do this too). Right now in our area, you can get $3750 cash back or special apr's and if you finanance through Mazda credit you get an additional $1000 off (06's at least). Without even trying to haggle you almost take $5k off the sticker price even before you start to negotiate. If you find an 06 it obviously been sitting for a year too which makes the dealer more inclined to get it gone so haggle on the price before incentives and you'll be almost stealing it. So if you work $4k off of sticker, add all the incentives and you'd be paying what an Srt4 cost new and get a lot nicer car for the price.

That is exactly my story as well. I'm usually pretty calm, cool, collected when buying. Once the sales guy saw the smile on my face when i drove this car, he had me. There was no convincing him I was ready to walk. :)

I bought it that same day. No need to drive another car. I *wanted* it!
