I did it again!

Fixed. Actually fixed this time. 3hr drive to NJMP held stable voltage.

Ended up doing the conversion to a 94-97 alternator late last night after striking out on other ideas.

2 day track event over. (NJMP Lightning, was there with NASA)

Car held up fantastically. Zero overheating issues. The only indication I really had of temps (other than the worthless stock temp gauge) was A) A rev limit cut in the Hydra to ~3,900rpm if I hit 235 water temps, which never happened, and B) how I only had 1 fan running when I came off track, and the 2nd fan is set to 203f. Granted, there is some cooldown driving before I could check that, about a minute's worth, but i think it looks like the temps stayed completely under control. Ambient was also ~60f. Probably a different story later this year.

I did pick up some knock at 6,500rpm in 5th at WOT coming onto the front straight and immediately felt the timing pull, saw the CEL pop up, and I lifted. I short shifted 5th a bit more, at ~5,500 for the rest of the day. It appears that I was seeing some boost creep? As I glanced at the boost gauge the next few laps at that point, and the needle was hovering around 10psi, rather than the 8 of normal. The Hydra should be able to handle that without an issue, so not really sure yet how to approach figuring out exactly what happened. Gas quality is certainly possible, as I had filled up outside of the track in town since the track ran out of 93. The quality might have been lower.

I also popped the hood after one session and found that there was oil seeping from around the oil cap, and my dip stick had been lifted out of the dipstick tube. I assume it means crankcase being pressurized, and will have to look into solutions for that.

Best part of the weekend? After 6 sessions, my instructor felt I was ready to move to DE2, and said I could solo for the last 2 sessions of DE1. I opted to find another instructor for the 3rd session yesterday (who happened to drive a Ford 302 swapped NA Miata), who completely agreed with the assessment. :)

I didn't do the 4th session, exhaustion setting in and a 2.5 hr drive home pending.

They wore less then half way from where they started. I set them at 30psi to begin with, and then ignored it. The car was balanced and I wasn't looking for any improvements in the car, just in my driving.

The 6ULs aren't ordered yet. I keep finding more important things to spend the money on. :)

Nothing this week! Too busy with family stuff.

Next is also waiting on a quote for the rear gear change + clutch/flywheel install. The install will happen sometime in the next month.

Mike, I admire the way you're going about this project. Your car and mine were two completely different beasts when we bought them. Mine seemed like a thrown together, science experiment that needed the turbo swap to fix it all. Yours, going step by step, is quite the logical approach toward it. If I was at the same starting point, I probably would have done something similar.

Didn't you also have different injectors than you originally thought?

Yeah, but there's a laundry list of s*** that wasn't right with that car.

Sorry, been quite busy.

I can't make it to Mid Ohio. I was going to be there, but too much stuff came up.

I will be at the Glenn with my MSM and my wife's 2 (she is coming with her kid sister, and I'm not going to leave the MSM behind just so we can fit 3 in 1 car).

I have everything in hand finally for my 3.63 rear gear swap and clutch/flywheel install. I should have them in before the Glenn. Unlikely I will have the FM2 in before the Glenn, though once the drivetrain items are in, I'm in the clear to install the FM2, so that should be in by mid July at the latest.

Also recently installed the FM 36-2 timing wheel, and did lots of Hydra related tweaking and troubleshooting.
