mazda 3 s winning blue
i have been doing some thinking about my goal to have a lightly to moderately modified 3 s sedan and how i am going to go about it.

here's a plan:

-go through the grounding phases (throttle body and comprehensive) based on that very tastefully done write-up.
- short ram intake (flooding is a b****), headers, and cat back exaust.
-advance the timing, grab some 'NOLOGY hot wires, sparco plugs, and a yellow top battery (hence temporarily disconnecting the negative terminal for a reset)
-fluidyne radiator
-pulleys
-cross my fingers for a plenum spacer sometime soon.

...and start throwing in some 94 octane (if nothing else it'll just make me feel good for a bit)

my hopes are that modest setup will earn me (not as modest) number in the neighborhood of a gain of 30hp... is that rediculous? any advice? is this good advice?

thanks guys... as soon as i feel i can help, i will instead of asking so many damn questions!

how do you plan to advance the timing??

you might see 12 whp with the rest of what you mentioned

There's a "mod" on the 3 where you literally move the crankshaft position sensor ... it advances the timing and messes with the fuel injection o_O (eek2)

Dammit

beat me to it zerg... but yeah the discussion on the "other" forum says they think the sloted sensor will give you +/- 4*

i was just in the proccess myself!!!!

oh well... ha

but aside from that, i am surprised that the estimated number on the other work are so low... i mean, i am, but i'm not at the same time...

30 is reduculous but so is 10hp...i guess i just got too optimistic... eek.....

i will let y'all know how it goes

and as far as the power out put with that setup i would think more in the range of 20-25hp.... most 3's dynoed stock around 135-140hp and the few dynos i have seen with just cat back and intake put it up to 150 and bean soldiers without the pullies or spacer (if one ever happens) is up to 154 hp... not sure what his stock run or if he had one was at...

not sure you would need to upgrade the radiator with those mods... and 94 octane is probably uneeded as well, 89 or reg 87 would probably still be fine.

to get anymore then 20-25 hp out of bolt on mods you are probably looking at some head work and lighter wheels and a flywheel....

it does seem kinda scary....

(werd)
...sounds about right...

racer x 3, i'd say 30hp over peak is an understatement :) Removing my secondary cat yielded almost 10hp over my base Draxas kit. It's safe to assume that removing the primary will yield another +10hp because of the better header piping (Draxas dynos show 11-12whp with their header and and a magnaflow exhaust). +6hp peak on the intake (Get a CAI or wait till i dyno the F2 intake 3" in a few days!) Timing advance will give you 3-5hp. Pulleys generally give 5-10hp (have yet to see a true pulley dyno gain so i'm assuming).

That's a lot. Glad you thought of the radiator-- shows you're not just wanting to throw mods into your car. That radiator's $700-some, ya?

You have stock 17"s wheels, so your baseline would be 135-140+, unless you have an auto, or 2.0L...

For the battery, if you're not an audiophile-- I'm currently waiting for driftfactory.com (local to me) to carry the Buddy Club RSB-25. It's 14lbs and has pretty good specs ($140). I'll have to dig it up. Or you can look up the Odessey PC680T (15.4lbs - $90).

EDIT: 94 octane on a mildly modded 3?! Doubt you'd need anything higher than 91 after you do the advance. If you do start loading on that, put some injector cleaner every few tanks.
