Mazda is entering its hydrogen powered RX-8 sports car in the Le Mans Vers le Futur (Le Mans into the Future) event in France later this month.

The Japanese automaker won the 24 Hour of Le Mans in 1991 with a rotary-engine racecar and is returning to the track this year with its dual-fuel (gas/hydrogen) eco-sports car. The RX-8 will be driven by Yojiro Terada, who has driven in 29 Le Mans races, including 16 with Mazda.

The Le Mans into the Future event will present a number of vehicles that use alternative powertrains, including electric, hybrid, natural gas and hydrogen fuel.
