how to tell diff btwn S and I

i had a mazda 3 wagon over the weekend as a loaner and i loved it. Only downside is that it was pretty weak feeling on power, still though perfect for a 2nd car.... so im wondering did I have a i which is why it felt weak onpower or was it an S and im just too used to my msp? or maybe it was an S that had been beat on for 15k....i dunno

so how can i tell if it was an s or an i
it had the full appearance package
valve cover just sait 16 valve, didnt specify 2.3l or not
17" wheels...

I think the Mazda3 5-door (hatchback) is only available as an 'S', with the larger engine. So if you had a hatchback, you had the bigger engine and the 'S' package.

All Hatches in North America have the bigger 2.3 L. 4 cyl. To me the car only seems to feel weak on power in 2nd gear under 40 km/h, Just put the pedal to the metal if you want to feel the full power or downshift.
