How To: Replace Front Sway Bar Bushings

andrei- mine is doing the same thing.. in the front its a slow squeak usually sounds like clicking but if you hit a deep spot in the road its for sure a squeak. i narrowed it down to the sway bar bushings in front by getting under the car, grabbing the swaybar and pushing up on the car with one knee making it squeak. you should feel the squeak through the swaybar. sounds retarded i know but it works. at least you'll know if thats what the deal is. nice to know now though that its not that hard to fix as ill probably be getting around do doing that when it warms up.

I'm hoping this will work with the MSP swaybar. Doin this next week to end that God forsaken squeak!

thanks for another well documented write up. would the greasable sway bar bushing fit? looks like there might be a clearance issue if the bushings with zerk fittings are used:

my hope is regreasing it might do the trick incase any clunks come back in the future.

The space was tight, i highly doubt it would fit. BUT you could try. lol

I usually just spray lithium grease when the car is up for oil change.

i went to NAPA and bought rubber replacements. i dabbled with the idea of poly but the couldnt beat the price. NAPA has B03E-34-156 replacements but i found out later they are for 2001-mid 2002 protege with rear disc brakes. the inner diameter of these bushings are 22mm. for mid 2002-2003 ES, LX, SE models the part is BL8P-34-156, according to the protege faq this is the 23mm bushing. NAPA does not have this in stock (as of today they are $1.74 each!!) and i'll probably return these and get the universal 23mm poly bushings.

i dont know if you want to revise the part number in your original post. if the 22mm bushing will fit the 23mm sway bar w/o issues i guess thats alright? i'd rather get the right size.

Going to tackle this soon. Manual says to disconnect lower ball joint, tie rod end, RMM, jackstand engine up as much as possible, then lower crossmember 3 1/4 inch. That clears bushings for removal. I'll post how went it.

I did this the other day according to the instructions provided. It took me just over an hour. But be sure to use plenty of penetrating oil the days before.

For those who wondered about grease fittings, you can fit them in, its the grease gun you have to worry about. So I've got a 90 degree fitting for my grease gun, but you can also get angled zerk fittings

It's much simpler than what was described here. I just did mine, it's cakewalk if you have her on lift.

All needs to be done is to undo rear engine mount center bolt, sway bar end link nuts at the bar, remove two plates holding subframe to body, and lower subframe by undoing 2 17mm head bolts holding subframe, up close to brake calipers. I had mine lowered only about 1/4 inch, and could fairly easily get to bushing nuts.

Sorry friend to translate for my action, but it solved my problem was the important thing .....

Say no more, I have to order the bushings
Thank you!

(then I should not have any problems when installing truth, even to another car)

Ordered a set of the energy suspension black ones, they arrive
next week so once done will share my experience...MP5 2002!!!

Is 23mm the correct size Bushings from Energy for a 2009 Mazda 5 front sway bar??? having an issue finding the correct size for the fronts. Thanks much.

Anyone know the torque spec on the bushings?

Btw, good writeup. Im sure its gonna help me big
