How to remove the center console cover?

If this is a Protege5, you first have to go under the driver and passenger side dash areas and un hook the wires for the AC/Fan controls. There is one on either side.
From there, it should just pop out and off, you will need to do a little fiddling to get it off once detached because of the wire run for the ac/fan controls.
