how TO: REAR VIEW MIRROR ( MRH OR MRC)

How To:

1. to remove the original mirror look on the bottom side of the metal part where the mirror mounts to the windshield. there should be a little recess for a small pocket screwdriver to fit in. once the screw driver is in tap the screwdriver with a rubber mallet till the mirror becomes loose and then just pull it away.
2. run the harness from the driver side a-pillar past the mirror about 6 inches inside the headliner . TIP: an easy way to run the harnes is to hold the connector under the headliner at the driver side corner and tuck up just a little cable in the corner then pull the connector along the headliner towards the middle and it will keep the cable hidden in the headliner and the connector outside.
3. connect the mirror and use the plastic wire cover to hide the wire all the way up to the headliner. the plastic cover just clips into place at the mirror and then is pulled up towards the headliner making sure the 2 tabs go under the headliner.
3. remove the door sill by sticking your finger from under the sill and pulling up. its easiest to start at the front corner but be carefull.
4. pull the weather striping from about the bottom middle of the door to the top of the a pillar off .
5. remove the kick panel by removing the plastic nut on the rear side of the kick pannel and pulling it toward the passanger side by holding it from the bottom side and the weather striping side carefully.
6. run the harnes along the a-pillar down towards the kick pannel (we run the harnes inside the a-pillar but its hard to remove it so im not gonna try to explain it to you guys because i dont want you to break yours).
7. run the harness along the edge of the door tucked behing the dash( you'll see what i mean when you take everything apart.
8. now depending on what type of mirror u have you will either tap into 2 cables or just one down on the kick panel side. blue/red and green/black. this is clearly labed on the instructions. and the ground is a 10mm bolt above the brake pedal.
9. putting everything back together is just as easy .

you *may* have to change the wiring because not all the accessory mirrors are wired the same, and some of them are by a different supplier

either way, I hate all of those accessory mirrors.. they're heavy, bulky, and cheaply built... I KNOW because I work with them all the time

homelink DOES have "always on" power to it... if it doesn't then whoever installed it didn't do it right... all of the ones I've installed works with no key in the car

mazda needs to get on the ball and get INTEGRATED *factory* features... homelink on the ceiling console or the dash, and a *real* sirius antenna instead of that cheap ass stick on aftermarket looking s*** with a stupid wire running across the body... it really looks cheap!... even honda has put in a nice satellite radio antenna that matches the car and have NO wires coming off of it, and they've had homelink integrated INTO the car for years, not this stupid add-on mirror s*** that's nothing more than a factory approved/sold aftermarket part!

Hey madein, if the car starts out with a compass equipped mirror, is there any extra wiring to do if you wanted to take that mirror out and install a compass mirror with homelink? In other words, is the homelink feature self contained?
no the homelink harness and conncector are diffrent and like they already said it does have a constant power source. you would have to tap into another cable in the kickpanel area. have any of you guys been to MazdaStuff.com they sell al the original mazda parts that come on the cars as options. all that stuff is what we install here at the port.

shaking rearview mirror?

Has anyone, with the Homelink mirror installed from the dealer with the car, noticed any extreme vibration in the mirror while driving?
Mine is SO bad that even on relatively smooth pavement (oxymoronic to be sure, here in New England, but you get my point), it shakes enough to give me a headache if i look too long at it.
Before i call the dealer and sound like a loser, i figured i'd throw the query out to you folks....

if the screw at the mirror base is over tightened, it can pull the two tab "tracks" on the base (part glued onto the windshield) outwards and cause them to be bent... once bent they can cause the mirror to wobble on the tip of the screw.. if the installer tightened the s*** out of that screw instead of just snugging down, it can cause this to happen

inspect it by grabbing the mirror base or stem and gently shaking it and see if there is movement on the base, if so you need to bring the car back to the dealer and get it replaced

awesome - im heading right down to the garage now to check it out - other than no power seat memory, too tightly clustered guages and a too small of a diameter steering wheel, the rearview is the only niggling little criticism i have of the CX so far.
