How to Install Power Trunk/Trunk Pop Using OEM Remote

thanks, i got my trunk actuator and relay coming too, just need to figure out what to use for the switch

I like having the switch and I figured most people would too. But it's not necessary if you just want to pop the trunk from your remote. If the reason you're not sure about the switch is not wanting a switch that looks out of place in your car, you could temporarily install (not actually mounting to the car) some cheap switch from like Advance Auto Parts. Just for when you're mounting the actuator to test its functon and to make adjustments to the rod if you need to. Run a fused wire from the battery + to the switch and a + wire from the switch to the + wire on the actuator. Then you could take out the switch when it's working right. The wiring for the switch isn't on the diagram so you could just follow it. If you're not mounting a switch, you're not running wire to the back of the car and you wouldn't need to remove many interior pieces. I guess just the rear deck would have to come out. You could always add the switch later if you wanted.

Awesome thread. I have been following it for awhile. I have a 2001 Mazda MP3. Is has a factory installed alarm and factory remote without any extra buttons. Is there away I can wire the trunk actuator to pop with my remote? I already have already purchased a kit I was just curious of how the remote could be used. Thanks for the info !
