I have recently had to go back to a reflector based headlight because of financial reasons but I decided that I still wanted to stick with HID's but didn't want to blind everyone down the road either. My result? An H4 to D2S adapter. What is this adapter that I'm speaking of?
This adapter converts the standard H4 socket into a D2S socket. The adapter also blocks light underneath the bulb that way you don't create the traditional glare that you get with a plug and play H4 bulb. What is D2S? It is the most commonly used HID bulb in cars that come with OEM HID projectors. They are super reliable, and all over the place. I decided to go with the Philips 85122 D2S bulbs because they are the best rated D2S bulb out there and only cost me $65 shipped for a set. They can be found all over eBay. Now if you have an HID kit, you will need a set of AMP to D2S adapters, which look like this:
Now that we have the adapters, bulbs and connectors, let's get to work. Here is what the bulb and adapter look like installed on the connector:
Now, grab the bulb attached to the adapter and install it into the H4 socket:
Undo the clip and put the connector adapter on there, then caress the clip back onto the underside of it. This can be tricky:
Here's what it looks like from the inside:
Now, grab the boot that covers the bulb socket and trim it. You have to do this because of the extra size of the AMP to D2S adapter:
Then install the boot:
Now enjoy the outcome!
