Okay according to popular theory, we now should be able to purchase aftermarket AFC's and have them work on the Mazdaspeed.

BE IT KNOWN. This has not been proven on any other AFC, other than the Greddy Emanage. The basic installation should be the same for most AFC's. This information was provided by Orangezoom (big thanks) and Teknik (thanks for the info). MP3skaterNC also provided some information into the 1k ohm resistor used.

In order to get the Emanage or any other AFC to work on the Mazdaspeed we need to trick the ECU. This is done by installing an o2 Modifier/o2 voltage clamp and a 1k ohm resistor.

The FM o2 modifier/voltage clamp can be purchased from http://flyinmiata.com/index.php?action=product&itemid=85501 . This unit also contains a pressure sensor WHICH IS REQUIRED so the ECU can see a false of the current A/F value.

Instructions for install can be found here :
http://www.gvii.net/dlralt/protege/instructions/Protege_O2_pressure_switch.pdf

The next thing to to is to wire a 1k ohm resistor INLINE with the MAF wire, PIN 88 on the ECU and an ECU ground. Theortically, this stabilizes the voltage that the MAF is sending to the ECU thereby allowing the unit to see a 0-5v range.

A 1 k ohm resistor is SUPPLIED with the Emanage or can be bought from any radioshack for 1.29 . At the moment, I have not figured out what wattage resitor to use, so the one supplied with the Emanage is the only one that is know to work.

After this is done .... HAPPY TUNING.

Any more information please write below and I will compile the information.

I figured someone needed to write everything out so people wouldnt get confused. Good luck getting your AFC!

Awesome, I might get an e-manage then. They're under $300, then all I'd need is the ignition harness and the stuff in this thread. Not too shabby! Thanks for putting the info in one place for us binary.

I might be in a month. You should probably make a new gauging interest thread with estiamted price etc so we can keep this one on track.

Any wattage resistor should be fine....

Does the FM clamp only work on partial load (or under boost), or it is always on....

I'm not really seeing how the ECU won't learn around this setup unless the O2 values are always being simulated...unless I just can't think right now...i dont know.

has anyone ever used this before & has there been any drivablity/functionality issues?? Thinking of getting the APEXI SAFC II.

I dont think anyone has done this, other than with a greddy emanage.
There shouldnt be any driveability issues... unless the install is all messed up.
This will let us tune the a/f properly.
Proper tuning must be done with a wideband o2 though.

I'd be interested in looking into this but not until it's tested first. I don't want to hook this thing up and boom it doesn't work. I know the e-manage worked but that took a lot of time. Who knows if the S-AFC will work.

Glad it works, but 100 bucks for the o2 modifier sucks. Ohh well, i'll end up buying it anyways. :/
ill sell my volt clamp very shortly, half that price, almost brand new
