How to clean under the car?

How do you guys go about cleaning the under carriage? I'm not looking for a show-quality job, but just to keep it from building up from everyday driving. I know there are some drive-through car washes that have underbody cleaning options, but I don't want to take my car through one of those.

Thanks!

Whats wrong with the undercarrige cleaning at the car wash? Anyways, i would say put it up on a lift and clean by hand then.

Car washes in general are just a bad idea.

Put the front end up on jackstands, spray everything down with simple green and pressure wash it off.

Simple Green, eh? Haven't heard of that. guess I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

Some of the self-serve wand wash bays have a little trolly thing that washes the undercarriage. It's totally self-controlled and does a pretty good job.

Huh?

Simple Green = environmentally friendly cleaning products that you could use to clean things
Not a Charlton Heston fan , I take it...

No, not really. But I'm taking it involves guns.
Umm, no. Soylent Green was a movie in the 60's about an over-populated future where a company, Soylent Green, produces food-like-stuff that turns out to be made out of people.

Sorry, movie buff...

If your car is really gunky with oil etc., There are special car cleaning places which do pressure steam cleaning of the undercarriage. Not cheap, but very thorough...
