How to clean the clear cover next to gear shifter

Hi I just that the clear plastic cover on the gear designator next to the gear shift in my automatic 2014 Mazda Cx-5 is really cloudy and there looks like there is some residue under the cover. I was just wondering if anyone knew how to take that cover off to clean the underside of that plastic.

Dumb question...is the cloudiness a protective film that needs removing?
