How-To: Change Interior Light's Color

Damn! I hate removing that center piece of the dash, b/c the adapter I bought when I got my radio is so F'in hard to put back in. It keeps sliding back, it never stays where its suppose to! But looks like If i want to change out those lights I'm going to have to . Well I've been meaning to invest in a better one. Does anyone have an adapter piece different from this one? That way I can get it and won't have to struggle putting this one back in ever again .

Pheonix,
you will not be able to do this. ALOT of people have tried this, but the actual dash and ac inlays have the translucent red material on them. You cant scratch it out, and you cant bleach it out. We have tried this in our club for ever. This is the closest we got to changing the color, and its not perfect.

whos car is that?? looks really nice. what size neons are under the dash??

okay, for the p5'ers, mp3'ers, and anyone else with red in the ac controls...when you take the console out to swap the bulbs, keep taking apart the hvac controls themselves, there is a orange-red colored piece of plexiglas held in place by four TINY screws.

take that out, and slap in whatever color you want.

i am still trying to figure a way around the red "film" on our numbers on the gauges...i swapped all bulbs to blue, and ended up with some bad purple results, SOOOO, if ANYBODY figures out how i can have blue gauges WITHOUT replacing my cluster, that'd be great. pm me.

someone was mentioning how it is double layered on the gauges but you have to remove the needles to do so

okay, IT'S OFFICIAL... changing the gauge lighting in mp3's, is IMPOSSIBLE.

the a/c controls are a piece of cake, but even with the gauge faces off...it is a collage of red and white and clear plastic, kinda embedded into the back of the faces. i see absolutly no way to get blue lights in my current cluster.

thanks for caring.

Does anyone know if the 74 bulb can be taken out of the twist socket (T1.5)? Will it come out at all or do I need to buy a whole new assembly, bulb and socket, to replace it all? Thanks.
